Chicago Travel Guide

Hey y’all!!

So as most of you know, I went out of town last week with my mom for a little girl’s trip to Chicago. I took aton of footage and got some awesome pictures that I can’t wait to share with y’all!

My mom and I sat down before our trip to plan which spots we wanted to hit, and I thought I would share it with all of you in case any of you are planning on visiting Chicago anytime soon! I’m in no way a Chicago expert but the both of us really enjoyed our trip, and we were able to hit everywhere on our list.

Without further ado, here we go!

1.) Chicago Cultural Center

img_7291img_7276

The cultural center doesn’t have too much to do or see, but the architecture in this building is seriously incredible. This glass ceiling is made by Tiffany & Co., and they have a ton of super cool mosaic-style decor, which makes for some pretty cool pictures.

2.) Millenium Park

3.) Shedd Aquarium

If you’re in kind of a time crunch, you might not want to stop by here, but if you have the time for it, it’s definitely worth it! To be very honest, it’s not much different than your regular aquarium, but it is pretty cool.

4.) The Art Institute

I’m the first to admit that I hate museums, but the Art Institute is supposed to be one of the best museums in the world, so it’s a must-see!

5.) SkyDeck Chicago/360 Chicago

img_9937

You probably don’t need to go to both 360 & the SkyDeck, so I think you could honestly just go to one of them. I personally prefer the SkyDeck a little more, but feel free to take your pick! We went to the SkyDeck during the day, and 360 at sunset. Make sure you check the weather before planning!

6.) Magnificent Mile

img_7031img_7075

Chicago’s famous mile-long shopping! Imagine a more spread out version of NYC’s Fifth Avenue.

img_7064

There’s a little Catholic church hidden on the side of Mag Mile, with a pretty courtyard tucked inside. If you’re ever in the area, it’s a super cute place for pictures!

7.) Grant Park

Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park- it’s right next to the lake, so it’s a great place to take a walk!

img_6971

8.) Navy Pier

I don’t have an actual picture of Navy Pier, but it’s one of the top tourist attractions of Chicago. We personally didn’t do much there, it’s kind of more of a family activity.

img_7008

9.) Lincoln Park

img_7443

The Lincoln Park Conservatory is a nice little botanical garden, with some pretty flowers. It’s free, too, which is a plus!

img_7420

Right next door is the zoo, which is also free!

Hope y’all enjoyed seeing all my favorite parts of Chicago! If you ever find yourself in Chi-town, be sure to send me all your pictures! And if you’ve already been, let me know your favorite spots!

Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick Review

Posted in Beauty
on September 29, 2016

The post you’ve all been waiting for… FINALLY, my Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lip review!!!

If you’ve kept up with me from Style Searcher, you know that I had to wait almost 3 weeks for this bad boy to arrive, and even longer contemplating whether they were worth the splurge. After a ton of back-and-forth and reading reviews on the lip kits, I finally decided to try some out! I ended up only picking two, so I could make sure I loved the formula before going back to get more.

IMG_8849.JPG

By the way, it actually took my package super long to arrive, and I emailed Kylie’s customer service team to get it figured out, and they were super sweet and helpful. I just thought I’d mention that because I’ve heard people having a rough time with the company’s customer service, but I actually had a good experience.

Now onto the products!

img_8869

I picked up two different shades, Reign (metallic deep red with gold undertones) and Dolce (brown slightly pink-toned nude.) I’m a fan of the packaging, as well- it definitely has some substance to it, and doesn’t feel like it was $5 at the drugstore. I swatched them before actually getting to try them out, and I personally wasn’t too impressed with Reign at first sight. It swatched slightly patchy and not completely opaque, so immediately I was like “well that was a waste of $20.”

img_8864

HOWEVER…. after giving them both a try, I have to say, hats off to Kylie, you (or whoever actually created the formula) made some bomb liquid lipsticks. I seriously love the formula- it’s thin, applies evenly, and stayed on for a good 4 hours without having to be retouched. I know the scent is either love-it-or-hate-it, but I actually don’t mind it. I didn’t even find it to be extremely strong either, which I’ve heard from other people’s reviews; and I’m typically pretty turned off by super strong smells.

Dolce (flash)

Dolce (without flash)

I definitely want to pick up a few more- I’ve got my eyes on Maliboo, Kourtney K, King K, and Heir. I think Heir could be used as the perfect lip highlight, maybe blended with Reign. For those of y’all who know me, though, know that I absolute despise paying for shipping. I totally don’t mind paying $20 for a lipstick, but when you ask me to shell out $10 on shipping, I’d rather ditch the whole purchase altogether.

I was able to purchase mine when Kylie Cosmetics did a free shipping promotion, so be sure to follow them on Instagram or subscribe to their mailing list so you can be updated when they do flash promotions.

Have any of you tried her makeup line yet? Let me know what you think! The eye products she’s put out honestly hasn’t really appealed to me, but now that I’ve really tried a few of her products I’m a little more interested to see if the rest of the line is worth the hype.

I hope y’all enjoyed reading my thoughts on the lip kits made by the lip kit queen. If you’ve tried them, let me know your thoughts and colors y’all think I should try! See you next time!

Fall Essentials Every Girl Needs

Posted in Fashion
on September 29, 2016

Hello everyone!!

As the leaves finally start changing color and hopefully the temperatures start dropping wherever you are in the world (wish I could say the same here in Texas but unfortunately we suffer almost 100 degree weather until basically halfway through October,) I wanted to share with y’all some of my favorite style pieces that are staples in my wardrobe almost every fall, but with a few trendy styles that are in for this coming season. Let me know what some of your fall essentials are, I’d love to get some inspiration from y’all!

1.) Denim Shirt

Denim button-downs are honestly a staple for any time of year, not just fall! They’re super easy to work with, and great for layering when the weather gets a little chillier. I find that a medium-wash denim tends to look a little more classic, but you could always get a light wash or dark wash. I love them all! Plus, super easy to dress down a more dressy outfit just by throwing it on and adding some accessories. Also looks so effortless with a pair of black jeans and throwing on sunglasses. So cute!

Denim button-down: TopShop (I couldn’t find my exact one, but this one would work great!)

Sunglasses: Prada

Ring: Tiffany & Co.

Necklace: Kendra Scott

2.) Cold Shoulder Blouse

These are so trendy right now, and I’m the first to admit that I think cold shoulder/cutout tops are so modest yet sexy and I LOVE THEM. Perfect to throw on in the fall, when the temperature starts to drop but it’s still in the 70s-80s and not quite sweater weather yet.

Cold Shoulder Blouse: Target – I love the embroidering along the top, and I found it at Target so it was super inexpensive! Y’all know I love shopping at Target! It also comes in 2 colors, but I thought the black looked a little better on me.

3. Bomber Jacket

I’ve honestly never been a huge fan of varsity-style bomber jackets, but I’ve seen a lot more this season that are so simple and chic. I’m a huge fan of layering, and bomber jackets are perfect for just that. If you get one in a neutral color, you can easily pair it with some of your more summery pieces and still look totally appropriate.

Bomber Jacket: Target

*Carli Bybel x Missguided also has one that’s super cute!! And only $48, what a steal

Apple Watch

4.) Comfy Hoodie

I love comfort just as much as the next girl, so this hoodie is a must-have. They can look super effortless with just a pair of black denim jeans, or casual with a pair of athletic leggings. I wear mine a lot with just a pair of Lululemon leggings and my Adidas Superstars- super easy, cute, and SO comfortable! Find a nice, soft hoodie and I can guarantee you’ll want to lounge in it every day. Mine is from Zara, but I don’t think they sell it anymore, sorry!

5.) Neutral Tote

I love wearing tote bags because you can bring every single thing you could possibly need and have extra room for more. I got mine this summer and haven’t stopped carrying it since!

Tote bag: Longchamp

You made it to the end!! Hopefully y’all enjoyed reading about my fall favorites as much as I enjoyed sharing them with you! I have a lot of fun stuff coming up that I’m so excited to share with y’all, so be sure to come back soon!

Fresh Starts & New Beginnings

Posted in Lifestyle
on September 29, 2016

Hi everyone!!!

hello-gif

I’m so excited to be writing this, y’all have no idea. Whether you’re a new or returning reader, I’m so glad you’re here. As some of you might know, this is The Style Searcher’s more sophisticated, (hopefully) better older sister. I originally started Style Searcher as a beginning blog that I could post all about my different passions and interests, and to share a little part of me with a little part of the world.

Screen Shot 2016-09-28 at 7.03.48 PM.png

After consulting with other people close to me, I realized I really wanted to develop my blog and see where it can go. I’ve had so much fun pouring into Style Searcher, and I’ve come to realize how much I love blogging and everything that it entails. Long story short, I finally decided to switch over to WordPress and develop my website into something that’s a little more “upgraded,” if that makes sense.

To be completely honest, after a while of working on my first blog, I came to really get tired of how it was laid out and the format, and I think WordPress will allow me to cater my website into the exact way that I want, and I’ll be able to customize it exactly the way I like.

As of now, I’m planning to switch over some of my favorite posts that I think fit the content image I want to maintain on here, and continue working on content that I hope y’all will enjoy reading.

For those of y’all that are new to my blog, hello, I’m so excited you wandered over, and I hope you enjoy your time here! My name is Summer, and I post all about fashion, beauty, food, lifestyle, and really just all about life in general. Please feel free to contact me with suggestions or comments- I promise I’ll respond. I do my best to post consistently, which means that most weeks I post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but sometimes life happens, am I right?

Anyway, I’m sorry this post has been kind of all over the place, but I’m so pumped for this new journey on StyledbySummer, I have a really good feeling about it and I’m so excited for all the content I have to share with all of you. Bare with me in the beginning, I’m sure it’ll probably a little scattered with my first few posts, but I promise I’ll get onto a consistent schedule once I get used to how WordPress works and I’m able to put up all of my previous posts that I want to share.

Thanks so much for reading, I hope you all are as excited as I am for this new beginning! I hope all of y’all have a great week- cheers to making it through hump day!!!
