Lusting for Lush

Posted in Beauty
on March 8, 2017

Lord knows I have way too many Lush products- I can’t help myself! Lush has so many incredible products, but sometimes it can be super overwhelming because they have what seems like an endless amount of options. I’ve been shopping at Lush for a few years now, & I’ve tried a ton of their stuff- some have made it into my list of holy grail products, and some… not so much.

On my Insta stories I always share my favorite bath bombs, and I get a ton of questions on my favorites & other product recommendations from Lush.

With that said, I thought it’d be super fun to talk all about my favorite Lush products, & share things I still want to try from them! Being the huge beauty junkie that I am, I’m always looking to try new things, so please send me all your recommendations that I haven’t included in here- I want to know what y’all are loving!

So let’s jump in 🙂

Let’s start with my favorite: bath bombs & bubble bars!!

Lush splits its store by product type- shampoo, conditioner, face products, bubble bars & bath bombs, soaps, etc. My favorite part of the store is definitely the bath bombs! I’m not going to lie- to be very honest, I don’t know exactly what beneficial advantages bath bombs & bubble bars have for skin health, but they’re freaking fun. Nothing is more satisfying than that initial contact that results in colorful swirly water! Lush scents are amazing, and bath bombs can totally change your bath experience.

In case you’re not super familiar with Lush products, here’s a little explanation: bubble bars are exactly what they sound like- a ton of pretty colorful bubbles! But if you’re looking for more of a fizzy bath, go for a bath bomb. The bath bombs tend to have a little more color & pigment, if you’re wanting to go for a really bright & colorful bath.

My favorite bath bombs are:

INTERGALACTIC: my ALL-TIME FAVORITE. Smells amazing, and I’d probably go so far as to say it’s the most beautiful. If you’re looking for the perfect Instagram pic, I’d say go for this one- it gives you beautiful swirls of bright yellow, green, blue, & pink.

BIG BLUE: This one’s super relaxing & refreshing. If you’re more sensitive to strong smells, this one’s a good pick! It smells like lavender & a hint of lime.

METAMORPHOSIS: I’m dying to try this one!! One of my friends sent me a snapchat video of this one, and it’s so pretty- after the grey fizzes out, it exposes gorgeous bright colors!

PINK: For anyone who’s not trying to spend $10 on a bath, this one’s awesome! I know bath bombs can get a little pricey, so if you’re wanting to try out bath bombs for the first time without splurging on a bunch, this one’s awesome to give you a little hint of the magic that is bath bombs. 🙂

Onto bubble bars!

BIG BANG: This one gives you gorgeous blue water with lots and lots of bubbles!

THE COMFORTER: This one’s soooo creamy.

SUNNYSIDE: I’d go so far as to say this one’s my fave bubble bar. It gives you a “liquid gold” bathing experience- so fun! The only bad thing I can say is that it leaves your tub super glittery, so make sure you rinse or scrub it all off afterwards!

Lush face masks are also some of the best in the market! I love how they’re all natural and (don’t quote me on this, but I’m pretty sure) vegan. They’re pretty much all sensitive skin-friendly, which is awesome!

They have two types of face masks: self-preserving & fresh. The self-preserving ones can last for a few months, while the fresh face masks have an expiration date. I’ve tried the fresh masks before, but for me personally, I prefer to just go with the self-preserving. I love experimenting with face masks, so I hate that I only have 2 weeks to use up the fresh ones. If you’re the type of person who uses a face mask start to finish, though, these are awesome!! Just be sure to keep them in your fridge when you’re storing them.

Here are some of my faves:

MASK OF MAGNAMINTY: This one’s a cult favorite, and the one I’ve been using for years and years. It leaves my skin feeling incredibly refreshed & smooth like a baby’s butt.

CUP O COFFEE: This mask smells extremely potent, so if you’re not crazy on strong scents stay away from this one! The caffeine in this one boosts your skin, and the coffee grounds help to scrub away dirt.

ROSY CHEEKS: I’ve tried this one before but don’t currently have it on me. It’s amazing for soothing your skin; it has calamine in it, which is super good if you have irritated skin!

Onto body products!

Lush also makes a ton of shower jellies, lotions, cleansers, shaving creams, & so much more! My favorite body products from Lush are:

DREAM CREAM: This one leaves my skin feeling incredibly moisturized, but not like an oil-slick. I hate super heavy moisturizers, and this one’s perfect for my preferences.

OCEAN SALT: My FAVE scrub!!! You can use this on your face or your body, so it’s super sensitive skin-friendly. It’s not too harsh, either, so you don’t have to use it super sparingly. Love love love.

LEMONY FLUTTER: This one’s awesome for winter time if you get super dry skin in the winter months, like I do. I always keep one in my purse in case I need it while I’m out!

Hair favorites:

DAMAGED: I always use this one after I get my hair colored. If you have super dry, damaged hair, this one’s perfect.

I LOVE JUICY: I personally am not a fan of Lush’s shampoo bars, just because I prefer something easy peezy that I can squeeze out of a bottle. This one, though, comes out of a bottle, and it’s perfect for the days when you haven’t washed your hair in a week (girl, I know you know what I’m talking about.)

YAY- you made it to the end!! Hopefully this helped any of you who are overwhelmed by how many products Lush has! If any of you have specific questions about any of the products, please shoot me an e-mail or a comment- I would love to chat! Also send me all your recommendations for anything I didn’t mention; like I said, I love trying out new stuff, so I would totally love to try out some of y’all’s favorites. 🙂

What’s in My Makeup Bag

Posted in Beauty
on February 17, 2017

Happy Friday, ladies! Hope everyone had an awesome week! As for me, this week was full of my first round of exams (ew, I know.) Yesterday we talked all about wardrobe essentials, so we’re sticking with the same theme and talking all about my beauty essentials that I keep with me all the time.

I got a this new makeup bag a little while ago and I thought this would be the perfect time to share with y’all what all I keep in here! I always get so curious what people keep in their makeup bags and purses- guess you could say I’m a little too curious, haha.

Let’s get into it! First off, this cute little makeup bag is from Jon Hart Designs. It seems like everyone in Texas and their mothers all have Jon Hart stuff, but I really just couldn’t pass up this gorgeous mint color! Plus- when things are personalized, I just can’t say no. It’s a bad habit! For any of you who are looking for last minute Valentine’s Day gifts for a friend or a relative, Jon Hart’s designs are perfect. You can personalize everything, down to the heat stamp. Check their stuff out here! The makeup bag I have is linked here.

I don’t keep a ton of stuff in my makeup bag- just the things I absolutely need! I hate keeping way too much stuff packed in there, because I feel like the whole point of having a makeup bag with me in my purse is for convenience. This way, I don’t have to dig in there for forever just to find something!

First off, I keep my favorite fragrance with me at all times. I’m not one to splurge a ton on perfume, unless I absolutely love the scent. A lot of times I end up switching this one out with Dolce’s Light Blue– one of my faves too! This one I found at Urban Outfitters a few years back and it’s just stuck with me! Keeping a perfume with me is seriously essential- you never know where you’ll end up going and who you’ll end up running into. Always good to be safe!

This YSL Volupte Sheer Lipstick has saved me so many times! I love it for whenever my lips are feeling a little dry and I want some color so I don’t look like a corpse (lol.) I’ve had this bad boy for so long & he’s still going strong! Plus, the packaging is gorgeous, so can’t complain.

This Too Faced Melted Lipstick is awesome just to throw on without having to use a lipliner, lip scrub, and all that fun stuff. Easy, peezy, lemon squeezy!

Especially around winter time, my skin can get crazy dry. The worst feeling is getting in your car to go somewhere and seeing a dry patch peeking out. This Estee Lauder moisturizer has been my A1 since day 1! It’s awesome for any dry skin emergencies.

Last but not least- my beauty tools! Every girl should always have these on you at all times- makeup bag or not! You never know when a pair of tweezers and some scissors will come in handy. I can’t even tell you how many times these little guys have saved me! If you’ve never tried a pair of Tweezerman tweezers, I highly recommend it. I used to just use regular drugstore tweezers, but it’s safe to say Tweezerman tweezers have changed my life. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself. You never know when you’re going to get a splinter, or have a loose thread in your clothes- trust me, these two are absolutely necessary!

Hope you guys enjoyed this little peek into my makeup bag. Have an amazing weekend, I’ll see all of your pretty faces on Monday! xoxo

My Everyday Flawless Foundation Routine

Posted in Beauty
on February 3, 2017

Hi everyone!! I’ve gotten a ton of questions about what I use on a day-to-day basis for my foundation, so I figured I would go ahead and share a post all about my favorite face products that I use every day! I typically like to go for a more matte look in the fall/winter time, and more of a dewy look in the spring and summer. I prefer keeping things more natural- there’s seriously nothing I hate more than cake face. I pretty much use the same products every time for my foundation routine- sometimes I adventure a little bit and try out some new products, but I always end up coming back to these babies!

PRODUCTS USED

Face Primer: Smashbox // Foundation Stick: Anastasia Beverly Hills // Concealer: Amazing Cosmetics // BB Cream: Smashbox // Spot Concealer: Too Faced Cosmetics // Highlighter: Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill // Bronzer: MAC // Brushes (Left to Right) Elf, Real Techniques, Amazon

I have two different products that I alternate between for my base- the Smashbox BB Cream and the Anastasia foundation stick. I find that the foundation stick gives me a little more coverage, but the BB Cream is a lot more breathable and doesn’t look as cake-y. The Smashbox is my absolute favorite in the summer, but I’ll break it out sometimes in the winter if I just want something lighter with less coverage.

I’m not a huge concealer-wearer, but for the days I need a little extra coverage for blemishes that pop up here and there, I use the Born this Way concealer. It works super well for any uninvited guests you may get on your face- it’s okay, we’ve all been there!

My parents blessed me with genes that make me rarely ever get undereye bags, so I never really have the need for an under-eye concealer either. But for the days I got barely any sleep the night before, the Amazing Cosmetics concealer works perfectly for me. If any of you are in the market for a good under-eye concealer, check this one out! I get mine at Ulta, and it’s amazing.

This MAC Bronzer I believe is actually discontinued (I’m sorry!!) but I also love using the Kat Von D Shade & Light contour palette. It works super well for all skin tones, and is so travel-friendly. Those of you who followed me over from The Style Searcher know I’m a die-hard fan of Champagne Pop! I’ve been watching Jaclyn Hill for forever  so obviously I had to hop on this bandwagon. Honestly, though, even if Jaclyn Hill didn’t help create this product, I’d still love it. My holy grail!!

Last but not least, how I apply everything! I use a Beauty Blender for the cream products, but I figured it would be a good idea not to show my super gross foundation-flooded sponge. I’m so overdue to get a new one! I love using the Elf brush on the right for my bronzer. If you haven’t tried out the Elf brushes yet, I seriously recommend it! I’ve washed it plenty of times and it’s pulled through for a good 2-3 years now. A great quality brush for an amazing price!

The Real Techniques brush works great for my under-eye area, and doubles as a highlighting brush. The last brush I use for baking. I rarely ever bake, but when I want to go for a more dramatic, sharp contour, it works like a dream.

I hope this helps you guys out a little! These products are my absolute faves, so I hope you guys love them as much as I do. As always, if you have any questions on the products themselves or how I apply them, shoot me a comment!

January 2017 Recap

Happy Monday, friends!! I hope all of you had an awesome weekend, and an awesome month! This month’s been pretty much just full of adjusting back to college life, but it’s been a good month overall. I wanted to start this new series of recapping each month- my monthly roundups are where you’ll find some recaps on what’s happened in case you missed it, and just some life tidbits and updates.

Let’s dive right in!

New Year’s Eve was spent with a cozy night in, just cuddled up watching Friends (I don’t care what anyone says, I’m the world’s #1 Friends fan.)

Akash & I kicked off the year in his dad’s cabins up in Oklahoma! I have a whole post on it here– it was so much fun, and a super relaxing getaway from the city for a few days. Definitely hoping we make it an annual thing!

My dad’s been wanting to take me to the shooting range for the longest time, and we finally found a time to go! It was a little scary, I’m not going to lie, but it was a fun experience! At least I get to say that I’ve shot a gun now… 🙂

Akash & I spent one of our last days back in Dallas exploring the city & enjoying some brunch at Bird Bakery. I have a whole post on the day here, check it out!

I visited one of my very best friends Melody before we both had to head back to school. Her house is gorgeous, and she was so kind as to let me shoot at her house- isn’t it beautiful?! This look went up last week, check it out here.

You can definitely say that blush is one of my new favorite colors! This whole month it seems like I can’t get enough! Love love love.

A highlight of every trip I take back to Dallas is seeing this little cutie! He melts my heart! 🙂

As soon as I got back to College Station, the work caught up with me real quick. I’ve been spending a lot of time just doing some logistics for the blog, and a lot of homework assignments too. Our recreation center just got finished and it’s huge- I found this spot above the rec that was the perfect study spot!

January was the year of the Keurig! I finally got myself one of these babies (it’s about time!) so I’ve been drinking a ton of tea! I love waking up early in the morning and making myself a cup of tea while getting ready for the day. So relaxing 🙂

Akash and I took a day trip down to Houston this past Saturday & shot some really fun pictures while we were there! I always love going down to Houston- the food’s amazing & their wall art game is off the hook- what else do I need? We shot this look just for funzies- it’s located right next to the Merchant Market shop. Keep your eyes peeled for this look coming on Valentine’s Day!

Now time for my favorite products of the month!

I’ve been going through the process of trying to repair my skin- the winter months have really made my skin super dry & just not cute. I’ve been loving these two face masks, this one by the Body Shop & the Origins Original Skin rose clay mask. I wrote a whole blog post on my favorite face masks here, check it out in case you missed it!

I’ve talked about this scent so much, but I seriously can’t get enough! It smells so light & so feminine at the same time.

Like I mentioned earlier, I’ve been really trying to take good care of my skin lately, and that means using sunscreen more often! I’m really bad about using sunscreen, but I’ve been trying to incorporate it into my skincare routine every morning. This one from Dior was a gift from my mom a while ago, but I love it so much!

I’ve also been loving this candle by Voluspa. I found this one at Nordstrom, but there are a ton of different scents from this company that are awesome!

Last but not least, I’ve been getting back into doing my nails at home! I’ve definitely been spoiling myself for the last few months with biweekly mani/pedis… but it adds up! I usually always get gel nails whenever I go to the salon, because they last so long. I’ve found, though, that you can really get the exact same look & longevity with gel-style polishes! I’ve been loving the new Essie formula & the Nails Inc. one too! Baby pinks are my fave, I rarely have anything else on!

Pamper Yourself: Essentials for an At-Home Spa Day

Posted in Beauty

Who doesn’t love a good bath? I know I definitely do. A nice candle, a fizzy bath bomb, and a glass of wine- what more could you ask for? After my last post sharing my favorite face masks, I got a lot of comments & emails asking about my bath time essentials. So here they are!

img_4239

Candles are essential to every successful bath time. This one from Nordstrom is awesome because it’s like a more affordable high-end candle. You definitely don’t need anything fancy, just whatever scent that you enjoy & gets you relaxed! I love warm fragrances, so this one is awesome for me.

I usually always try to exfoliate my skin before putting on a face mask, and this Soap & Glory detox scrub is amazing. It’s not like a typical scrub with big microbeads- this scrub feels almost like tiny sands, so it’s not as harsh on your skin. It always leaves my skin feeling fresh & clean. You can also find it at Walgreens and Target, so it’s super accessible!

After the scrub, I love this Fresh rose face mask. It’s super calming, so for those of you with sensitive skin, you don’t have to worry about irritation. It’s also super easy! I love clay masks, but sometimes they’re a real pain in my booty to take off. This one’s super easy to rinse off & the effects are awesome.

After both the scrub and the face mask, I use this tea tree oil from The Body Shop to prevent blemishes. Take advantage of the steam from the bath opening up your pores!

I recently discovered the magic of bath bombs. I don’t know if they actually do anything for your skin, but they’re so much fun to use! My boyfriend got me this set as part of my anniversary gift, and it made me wander into Lush to explore the world of bath bombs. Now it’s safe to say I have a few too many…. oops! My favorite one so far is Intergalactic, but the one in this photo is Sex Bomb. They’re all awesome, but if you’re looking for something that gives a ton of color to your bath, try The Experimenter.

Happy bathing, friends!! 🙂
