Hey hey! Happy Wednesday, y’all- I hope you all had a fun & relaxing weekend! I’m currently writing this post snuggled up with some Panera mac & cheese, so you could say I’m a happy camper. 🙂 Today I want to talk about something that’s been on my heart lately: comparison. There’s honestly no post I like writing more for y’all than the ones where we talk about life- I LOVE having conversations with all of you in the comments, and hearing your thoughts. With that said, I’m hoping we can all have a discussion down in the comments after y’all finish reading this post!
Happy April!! A quarter of the year is already half over- can you believe it?! Insane.
15 minutes ago, I was debating on whether to even do a monthly round-up for March- for some reason, I thought I didn’t have enough to share, so I looked in my camera roll to see what all I did this month. Turns out there’s actually quite a bit that happened this month, so I’m excited to be sharing it with all of you.
Let’s jump right into it, starting with the first weekend in March that I spent back home Dallas, Texas. In case you missed it, I did a whole post on my new blogger friend Jess. It was so fun to sit down & have lunch with her- cheers to new friends!
Also in the month of March, Akash & I discovered our new favorite restaurant in College Station- Blackwater Draw! If you follow me on Instagram (which you should) you’ve probably seen some of the pictures I took there- SO YUMMY. For any of you who are in the College Station/Bryan area, it’s a must try if you haven’t been already! Their food is to die for.
Akash & I also went on spring break on the 12th, and had so much fun in New Orleans. I’m sure you’ve all seen it, but I’ve linked the post here in case you missed it! Definitely check out that post if you’re visiting the city anytime soon- I took y’all day by day through our first time in the city of jazz.
After our trip to New Orleans, I spent 4 days back home in Dallas just catching up with friends & spending time with my family. Home is my favorite place to be! My best friend Melody & I took a trip to the Texas Tulips field in Pilot Point, Texas. It was incredibly windy, but it was fun to see it & take some cute photos. It was also during this trip that I got news that I got the internship I’d wanted!! Definitely a highlight of the month. 🙂
I had two collabs this month, and they were both so much fun to take part in! The girls at The Mint Julep Boutique & Dizzy Shoes were both so much fun to work with, and it makes me super excited for all the projects I have coming up in the near future… keep an eye out! 😉
I also shared this gorgeous maxi dress on the blog earlier in the month, and it’s probably one of my favorite pieces that I’ve featured on the blog yet. Check out the post here!
So that’s all I have for y’all today- hope you enjoyed this short & sweet monthly round-up! Here’s to a great start to April- yay!!
Shop my favorites of the month:
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these! The past few months on my blog has been just fashion, fashion, fashion, so today I wanted to get a little more personal with y’all- a coffee date, if you will! 🙂 A lot has happened in the past few months, so I’m excited just to sit down and talk to you guys, girl to girl (or guy!) on a more casual, ramble-y level. I’ve always loved creative writing, which is one of my favorite parts about blogging, and I’ve definitely missed it in the swarm of fashion & beauty content on here! So grab a cup of coffee & a snack, today’s going to be a fun one!
Let’s start with a little life update- this semester’s definitely been an adventure, and I can’t even begin to wrap my head around the fact that I’ll be graduating from Texas A&M in just a few months. I feel like I just got here, and it’s already almost time to leave. This semester’s been a more calm one than others in some aspects, but also a crazy one in others. My school load’s been super doable this semester, but as my blog’s begun to pick up, it’s been crazy hard to keep up. Some days I find myself so stressed out about little things, because I want everything that I publish on my blog to be absolutely perfect. But more on this later- I said I would do a little life update first! (Side note: prepare for this post to be all over the place- that’s how my thoughts run! So all you Type A peeps- sorry for the rambling!) My semester officially ends in a little over a month, which is crazy- this semester feels like it just started! This summer I’ll be taking a class at my community college back home to ease up my last semester’s course load. On top of that, I found out a week ago that I’ll received the opportunity to intern with Fossil this summer back in Dallas, so I’m super pumped about that! I’ll be working with them as a Marketing Intern, so be prepared for looks with new watches this summer 🙂 As excited as I am to start this journey, I’m also pretty terrified! I interned with Target last summer, and it was definitely a learning experience, so I’m anxious/nervous/excited/scared/super pumped to take on this internship. I’m hoping to learn a lot this summer & I’m so excited to get started, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. All prayers appreciated!
In other news, I signed a lease to live with my sweet friend Haley for next semester, and boy am I excited!! Although it’s only going to be for a short 5 months, I have a really good feeling about this coming semester. It’s definitely going to be bittersweet, but I’m ready to finish off my 3.5 years at A&M with a bang! People say all the time that the people you meet freshman year are going to be your friends for all of college, but I’ve definitely met some of my closest friends during my junior year. So for all of you guys in your freshman year of college who have maybe struggled with making friends, don’t worry- there’s plenty of time! By the way, I’ve been thinking about maybe writing a blog post or two on college advice, and my experience being in college (picking a roommate/roommate problems, finding a balance, being away from home, etc.) – if any of y’all would be interested in reading those, definitely let me know! I know a lot of you are in college or about to be, so I would definitely be willing to do some advice posts if y’all want to read it.
As far as blog news goes, I’ve found that the more time I dedicate, the more I fall in love with this world of blogging. It’s still so insane to me that I’ve begun to build a community here with all of you- a lot of people may think that we’re just a bunch of girls giggling over some cute new shoes or a pretty shade of lipstick, but it’s so much more than that. Reading your comments always puts me in the best mood, and I’m excited to be growing our little community here & welcoming in new faces. As much as I love blogging, though, there are always downsides to everything. Since I am a relatively new & small blogger, the blog-timidation is real. After hours and hours of perfecting my site to exactly what I like & what I think looks great, oftentimes I read other bloggers’ sites and feel so little. I’m not hoping to become the next big blogger with millions of followers, but trying to grow a network is hard work, y’all! Sometimes I find myself so caught up in the numbers that I stress myself out and momentarily forget the whole reason that I’m doing this is for me, myself, and I. I have to stop and force myself to realize that yes, the blogging industry is huge, but when compared to genuine connections & being able to share the thing I love- fashion- with other girls out there just like me, follower count is so miniscule.
I find that a lot of times since I started blogging, it’s hard for me to realize that my phone is glued to my hand basically 24/7, and I can’t go anywhere with my boyfriend, family, or friends without updating my Instagram story or Snapchat. I’m always trying to think of cute new Insta pictures I can take, what clothes would look good with the wall color of the restaurant I’m going to, what items to order based on what would look “aesthetically pleasing,” …the list goes on and on. And let me tell y’all- I have no idea how some girls do it, but I am on the struggle bus when it comes to flat lays & taking the perfect artsy-fartsy picture. I sincerely hope that there are other people out there who feel the same way, because sometimes I drive myself crazy with trying to portray the perfect life. But sometimes life isn’t perfect. It’s taken me a long, long time to realize that when you see other influencers posts on social media, you’re merely looking through a tiny lens that shows you all of the things that are “post-worthy.” God did not intend for life to be perfect, and therefore, it isn’t. I’ve finally learned that I need to learn how to unplug, and cherish who I’m with & just enjoy their company. This is definitely something I’m working on, so we’ll see how it goes!
On a lighter note… Last week, I started working out + eating (semi) clean again! It’s been fun (surprisingly) getting back in the gym and focusing on putting things in my body that help it, not hold it back. I bought Karena & Katrina from Tone it Up’s 28 day plan book, so I’m planning on starting that April 1st- if anyone wants to join me, please do!! I’ve been updating my Insta stories with things I’m eating + my workouts, and it’s been fun getting messages from y’all about your journeys in getting fit + active. I’ve really been enjoying listening to audiobooks during my workouts, along with listening to different messages on The Porch app. The Porch is the college ministry at Watermark Church in Dallas, and their app has a ton of recorded messages that you can watch or listen to. If you’ve never heard of it, download the app! Each of their messages are about an hour long, so I’ll run on the track or hop on the stair-stepper, and the hour goes by so fast.
I definitely didn’t realize how long this post had gotten! I hope that y’all had fun reading today’s post, I definitely had a lot of fun talking with all of you. It’s always fun catching up with y’all, and I can’t wait to read each and every one of your comments! 🙂 If this is something y’all would like to see more often, let me know & I’d be happy to make these a series. Thanks so much for stopping by, kisses from College Station!! xoxo
Happy Tuesday, friends! It’s absolutely CRAZY to think that March is already here… where, oh where has the time gone?! At least spring break’s only 2 weeks away, so I really can’t complain.
For those of you who joined the S by S fam in February, welcome!! I’m so happy you’re here 🙂 I started my monthly round-ups last month as a fun way to get a little more personal on here, and share some life experiences that happened that month along with recapping my fave blog posts of the month. I created them as a fun way to look back on the month & reflect on all the blessings. They’re as much for just me to look back on later on as fun little posts for you guys to read! I also include all the links for you guys to shop things I mention, especially my favorite products of the month.
This month’s been a fun one! Some of my favorite blog posts went up this month, so I’m excited to recap those for y’all. On top of that, this month’s been full of fun new experiences (and YUMMY FOOD 😉 )
Akash & I kicked off February with some good ol’ country dancing! I’d been a few times before, but it was Akash’s first time at Hurricane Harry’s, the dance hall we have here in College Station. Nothing I love more than experiencing new things with this boy. We may have looked like a couple of complete idiots, but it was so much fun!
This past month has been FULL of new recipes & experimenting in the kitchen. I baked my first pie at the beginning of the month and now I can’t stop! You can definitely say I’ve found a new hobby. The one in the first picture^^ is a pecan pie recipe from one of my absolute favorite bloggers, Hayley. She shared it around Thanksgiving & I had it bookmarked since then. If you’re a pecan pie fan, try it out- it’s to die for.
I’ve been really loving trying new recipes- my only wish is that I could eat more so I could cook more!
Please ignore the low-quality pictures, haha!
For Valentine’s Day, Akash & I had a wonderful dinner at my favorite restaurant in College Station, Christopher’s. He brought me flowers and chocolate, so you could say I’m a happy girl. 🙂
If any of you are in the College Station area, Christopher’s is so good– definitely a must try! A lot of nice fine dining places don’t give you a ton of food, but that’s totally not the case at Christopher’s. I know the picture doesn’t look totally appetizing, but trust me- it’s seriously so good. You get a full plate of food, and everything’s absolutely amazing. You won’t regret it!
I got to see my sweet friend Lauren while she was in town for only a few days! Lauren & I have so much in common, so it’s always so fun catching up with her.
I had so much fun collabing with one of my sweet blogger friends, Morgan from The Vixen Blog. I got to do my first giveaway, too, which was so fun! The blog post is here in case you missed it!
In case you missed it, I shared this post, all about what’s in my makeup bag!
I shared all of my favorite pieces for spring in this post! I’m still in love with this clementine crossbody- so happy about this purchase!
The first half of February included a swarm of Valentine’s Day outfit posts! This one was one of my favorites, featuring this pretty olive dress.
Hi everyone! I hope you’re all having an awesome start to February! This month I don’t have too much going on- it’s after all the holidays have died down, school’s started back up, and there’s not a ton to look forward to. Months like these can sometimes put me into a rut, and it makes me feel sluggish and unmotivated- I almost feel like there’s nothing to look forward to in the near future. Especially when it comes to New Year’s Resolutions, this is always the time that everything flatlines for me. I’m sure there’s no way I’m the only one who feels this way (unless I really am… then shame on me.) After a while, though, I’ve figured out a few ways to try to overcome it, and I wanted to share these tips with you in case any of you are going through a rough patch!
1.) Remember why you started.
This one’s a hard one for me! Especially when it comes to diets and workout plans, I always start to plateau around 3 weeks to a month in. It’s helped me a lot to think about why I started in the first place. Maybe you’re trying to get in shape for a vacation coming up, or working on a long term project. If you remember why you started, you’ll remember why you wanted to do it in the first place, which will hopefully motivate you to get back into it!
2.) Take a breather.
I don’t know about y’all, but sometimes all I need is just a day off to do something fun. There have been SO many times where I have big exams coming up that I’ve been studying and studying and studying for- but then I get burnt out. That’s when Akash and I decide, “Okay, if I sit here and try to tough it out, that’s not going to do me any good.” At that point, you might as well get some fresh air- go on an adventure for a day, take a walk, go to that new restaurant you’ve been meaning to try! Sometimes all you need is just a little fresh air. 🙂
3.) Find a new hobby.
Or spend some time doing something you already enjoy! For me, starting my blog became this incredible outlet where I could channel all of my creative energy. I definitely look at it as a passion of mine, and when I blog I think of it as getting to do the “fun stuff.” Figure out what that may be for you- exercising, reading a book, even knitting! If you’re having trouble with getting up in the morning and looking forward to something everyday, try finding a hobby that will make you excited to get up and start the day.
4.) Surround yourself with people who bring you up.
Something that’s been hard for me to learn (and that I’m still in the process of learning) is surrounding myself with people who are driven, and only pull me up. I’ve had my fair share of bad friends- ask my mom, she’ll tell you all about it- to know that when you surround yourself with kind-hearted people, it really makes a difference in the way you see yourself. Find people who will motivate you, encourage you, and support you.
Last but not least,
5.) Go on Pinterest & find some motivating quotes. Then write them on some sticky notes and put them around your house!
This seriously works. When I was a junior in high school & studying for the SAT, learning the vocabulary words was one of the hardest parts for me. Insert this tip. After writing the definitions on places around my house, I’m not kidding, I learned them all within a week. I know this example’s a little silly, but it really works! My favorite is putting one up on my mirror to wake up to each day. It may seem goofy, but try it out! It’s worked for me, and I’m sure it can work for some of you. 🙂
I hope you guys enjoyed hearing my tips for staying motivated! This time of year can be kind of “bleh” for a lot of people, so know you’re not alone! Wishing everyone an awesome rest of your week, and I’ll see you all on Friday!
