The Perfect Date Night Romper

Posted in Fashion, Outfits
on March 24, 2017

It’s FRIDAY, y’all!!! Yay! Akash & I have a fun date night planned tonight & I wanted to share what I’ll be wearing with all of you guys. Now that Texas has decided to be 90 degrees every day, I’m so excited to be breaking out all the bright rompers & dresses. Today I’m partnering with the Mint Julep Boutique to show you guys this gorgeous romper & super fun reptile skin clutch!

I’m loving the silhouette of this romper, and the print too. So trendy & fun for spring/summer, and to top it off the elastic band makes it incredibly comfortable. This romper is perfect for a dressier date night, but it can also be dressed down super easily to be worn on a casual pool day as a coverup. Not to mention it’s under $50?!?

I paired this number with classic block heeled nude heels, and this clutch from Mint Julep as well. Y’all know I love pairing more fun pieces with classic and simple accessories, so this outfit is so me.

Mint Julep Boutique has a ton of super fun items for spring up on their website, and the best part is that they’re all super affordable! Plus, if you sign up for their emails, you’ll receive $10 off your first order- whaaaat?!

Hope y’all enjoyed today’s outfit, I hope you all have an awesome weekend!!! 🙂

on March 22, 2017

Is anyone else in disbelief that it’s already almost April?!? I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that the year’s already 1/4 over- whatttt?!

With that said, summer’s right around the corner and y’all know what that means- beach days & sunshine 🙂 I always love getting ready for summertime- buying swimsuits, new shorts, new sandals, you name it. So today I thought I’d go ahead and put together a little collage for y’all of things I’m eyeing for this summer!

What’s better than a little shopping to make your hump day a little more exciting?

New Orleans Travel Diary

Posted in Travel, Travel Guides
on March 17, 2017

As I’m writing this post, I’m currently on the long (somewhat grueling) 8-hour drive back to Dallas! Akash & I just left the wonderful city of New Orleans, and thanks to the amazing invention of personal hotspots, I’m writing this post covering our trip while it’s still fresh on my mind.

This was the first time to New Orleans for both of us, so we definitely opted for the sightseeing experience rather than the Bourbon street experience. If you’re wanting to take a trip to a city where you can explore all the random nooks & crannies, New Orleans is perfect for that! We spent 4 days here, and to be totally honest, we definitely ran through our itinerary in just two. Basically what I’m trying to say is that there’s not a TON to see, so if you’re not wanting to do a ton of walking & exploring, NOLA might not be your favorite spot.

With that said, let’s jump into all the fun things we did and saw on our trip!

Day 1

We got up at 5 AM (ugh) on Sunday, and embarked on our 7 hour drive to Louisiana! The drive really wasn’t that bad- given, I slept for a large part of it (sorry, Akash.) Our first stop upon arriving in the city was walking around the French Quarter before our 4pm check-in at our AirBnb. We had to pay $20 for 2-hour parking which kind of sucked, but we had a good time walking around the French Quarter.

The #1 thing on my list for our trip to New Orleans was to try beignets- I’ve seen everyone and their mother post about these on Instagram, so I was dying to try them myself! We made our way over to Cafe du Monde, and stayed in line for a good 5 minutes before realizing that it would probably take a good 2 hours to make it through the line. I had heard a lot of good things about Cafe Beignet, and it was right down the street so we made our way over.

The wait at Cafe Beignet was only 10-20 minutes, and all of the staff there was so nice! Needless to say, we enjoyed our little snack.

After Cafe Beignet, we spent the rest of the afternoon just wandering around the French Quarter, and taking some fun pictures.

4m rolled around, and we eventually headed over to our AirBnb. I shared the place we were staying on my Insta stories, and got a ton of questions asking about where we stayed, if we liked it, what neighborhood we were in, etc., so I decided to go ahead and link it for you guys in case anyone else is wanting to visit the city & is looking for a place to stay.

Akash & I both loved the place that we stayed at- it was extremely clean, beautifully decorated, in a safe neighborhood, and perfect for a couple visiting the city. The only thing I can say is that I do wish it was a little closer to the French Quarter- driving over to the French Quarter took on average 15 minutes; 30 minutes with traffic. Other than that, we both had such a great first experience using AirBnb.

If any of you are visiting New Orleans anytime soon, I’ve linked the place here– definitely check it out!

After settling into our room, we headed out for dinner at Parkway Bakery & Tavern for some po-boys. I actually got a ton of recommendations from you guys on my Instagram to stop by for their po-boys, and they definitely didn’t disappoint! I ordered the golden shrimp and Akash got the roast beef; he didn’t like his too much, but I devoured mine in a matter of minutes. We also tried their ice cream sandwiches, which were alright- they advertise them as homemade, but they were packaged like any other ice cream sandwiches you could find at a Walmart. In my personal opinion, not worth the $4.50 each that we paid.

Day 2

I actually had an interview for an internship I’m applying to for this summer on Monday morning, so the majority of this morning was taken up for that. After my interview, though, we headed out for my favorite meal- brunch!! Per your recommendations again (can you tell the trend here?) Akash & I had a delicious brunch at the Ruby Slipper Cafe in Uptown. This one tops the list as my favorite meal that I had while in New Orleans. I’ve been to a ton of brunch places (breakfast/brunch food is my FAVE) but this one definitely makes the list of my all-time favorite brunch spots! Akash & I both ordered the Chicken St. Charles, and it was to die for. Seriously thinking about it now is making my mouth water, haha.

After brunch, we wandered around the area into Harrah’s and the Shops at Canal Place. I always find it funny how no matter where we go we always somehow end up at a mall. We spent a little while wandering in the shopping center, and then headed back into the French Quarter. We spent a while just strolling around Bourbon Street, appreciating all of the pretty architecture that we don’t see much of back in Dallas.

We also paid a visit to Jackson Square, and went inside the cathedral as well. At this point I was dying to see what the hype over Cafe du Monde was all about- every single time we passed the Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter, the line was about a mile long! I checked my GPS and discovered there were actually multiple locations, one being just a mile away, so Akash & I made our way to the Cafe du Monde at the Riverwalk Outlets. It was a little bit of a longer walk, but you can actually go by the riverside and it’s a super relaxing & scenic walk. The weather was just bright enough for some fun pictures but a little breezy, so we were comfortable.

By the time that we had walked around the whole area by the riverwalk, Akash & I were both exhausted, so we headed back to the neighborhood where we were staying. We found this little pizza place called Reginelli’s, and then we headed straight home.

Day 3/4

Day 3 & 4 were pretty uneventful- we basically went back for more beignets like 3 times, and spent a little bit of time browsing the shopping centers in the city. On Tuesday, though, we did get a chance to stop by Dat Dog for some amazinggg hot dogs!

Later that day, we also swung by District Donuts. For all my Texas girls- it’s a lot like Gourdough’s, but (to be very honest) not as good. My expectations for this place were pretty high, and it wasn’t as good as I thought it’d be. I ordered the Berries & Cream donut, and Akash got the Cookies & Milk.

On our last day in New Orleans, Akash & I finally got to stop by this brunch place that I’d heard so much about- Surrey’s Care & Juice Bar. As you can pretty much see in this post, Akash & I aren’t crazy about Cajun food… but when we came here, I had heard so much about their amazing shrimp & grits, so I decided to give it a try. Y’all- IT. WAS. SO. GOOD. We also got their apple juice to try, and that was amaze-balls too. If you’re in the area, this place is a must-try!

Whew- that’s it for part 1 of my New Orleans travel diary! Congrats to all of you who made it to the end! 🙂

Meet Jess

Posted in Fashion
on March 10, 2017

Today I want to introduce you all to a sweet new friend of mine, who I got to meet this past weekend- Jess Pereira from Dressed by Jess!!

I actually reached out to Jess around a month ago, because I fell head over heels for her content- both on her blog and her social media channels. For those of you who also blog out there, you know how exciting it is to make a new blog friend- you can literally talk for hours and hours about things your friends in real life don’t always understand/have the patience to hear! Needless to say, we hit it off and I’m super excited to have a new blogger friend in Dallas.

Anyway, back to Jess- she’s a photographer + fashion blogger, and if you check her website, you know- her content is incredible. She has more minimalistic yet classic style, and everything she wears just looks so effortless! I could honestly spend hours and hours looking at the pictures she’s taken, too. After a month since the first time we spoke, Jess & I were finally able to meet up last weekend when I got the rare chance to spend a weekend in Dallas. We had so much fun getting lunch at Savor Gastropub in Klyde Warren Park, and talking about everything from our favorite bloggers to our future career aspirations. Cheers to new friends! 🙂

Jessica & I decided to do a little interview, as we figured it would be the best way for our followers to get to know each other!

If I were to look in your purse right now, what would I find?

I can start out by telling you my purse needs to be cleaned out! Things pile up in there when life gets busy! I always carry my planner around because clients can call for my photography business at any time and I need to be able to schedule them in! You can also find my badge for my full time job (I have to pay to replace that so it’s better to keep it in one place). I have two different chapsticks, two lipsticks, sunglasses, two gift cards from my graduation I still need to use (perfect excuse to go shopping!), A Millennium Hotel room key from my stay in London, a subway card from NYC, Excedrin because I get headaches at the most random times, eye drops, a tangerine??, hand sanitizer, several receipts, two extra pairs of contacts because why not, and I threw in exactly two pencils and five pens.

Is this what everyone else has in their purse or is it just me??

What has been your most popular blog post to date?

My most popular blog post was my last post about my nail hacks! I shared my secrets about what I do to save money when it comes to nail care, and still keep fresh color on all year around!

What are 3 clothing pieces you can’t live without?

I most definitely cannot live without my Lululemon leggings. They are like an extra layer of skin! I can dress them up and I can dress them down. Number two would be my casual Vince shoes. I dedicated an entire post to these two pairs of shoes because I am so obsessed with them. And coming in at number three would be any kind of comfy and loose fitting solid t-shirt.

If you could live in a book, TV show, or movie, what would it be?

This is a tie between Gossip Girl and Friends. If you’ve seen these shows you know they both take place in NYC, which I would move to in a heartbeat! Other than that I love both of these shows for different reasons. I am in love with the entire wardrobe of Gossip Girl, and I would love to be part of a super tightknit group of people like the cast in Friends!

What would be your perfect day?

My perfect day would be in the company of the people I love most! Some of my favorite days included no glamour, but were spent laughing with close friends or having good conversations with family. Being in a dream destination with friends and family would be a cherry on top, but it’s all about who you’re with, not where you are!

How would you describe your style?

My style is very black and white (literally!). I don’t wear a whole lot of color, but I am definitely trying to branch out a little more. I have pretty simple taste, I like solids and minimal patterns, but I do like something exciting in my pieces every once in awhile, like edgy leather pants, a cute and classic bow, or fringe. So while my pieces can be eclectic, my color palette remains pretty steady (as of now!)

I hope you guys had as much fun reading this post as I had putting it together!

Don’t forget to check out Jess’s blog & all her social media- show her some love!!

Balling on a Budget: Trendy Pieces

Posted in Fashion
on March 6, 2017

Happy Monday, friends!! Hope each and every one of you had a fabulous weekend, and that your week is off to a good start. Sorry for being a little MIA last week- Akash & I drove to Dallas early Thursday, and I had a weekend jam-packed full of meetings and hanging out with my fam! In case y’all aren’t following me on my Instagram yet, you totally should- I post on there super often, and keep y’all updated on all of the fun things going on in my life, on a more personal level!

Anyway, today’s blog post is a series that I’ve wanted to start for a while- the Balling on a Budget series! I know a lot of you are college students (aka broke.) But even if you’re not, who can say no to saving some extra cash, right? So basically with this series I’m going to be talking about all my tips I’ve collected over the years of being a self-proclaimed shopaholic. Ask all my friends & family- everyone knows I love a good deal!

SO with that being said, hopefully this series will help you guys out in any way when it comes to shopping smarter & deal-hunting. If there are any subjects or themes you want me to cover, please be sure to let me know! Now let’s jump right in…

So to kick off this series, I wanted to talk about a tip that I keep near and dear to my heart- saving when it comes to trendy pieces!

You’ve probably heard this tip time and time again, but we could all use a little refresher. Save when it comes to trendy pieces, and splurge on classic pieces. So for example, take these tassel earrings- these are super on trend right now, especially tassel earrings with fun bright colors. But let’s be real- how many times would you really wear them this season? Probably not as many as you’d like for a $60 price tag, am I right?

One of my favorite stores to shop for trendy jewelry is Francesca’s. I believe every jewelry piece at Francesca’s is under $50- which, to be honest, is still a little steep, but Francesca’s always has the perfect trendy jewelry that’s good quality, and way more inexpensive than something that you’d buy that’s designer.

Know when to shop. When it comes to trends, it’s somewhat like predicting the weather. You can estimate, but nothing’s for sure. A lot of trends, however, resurface. For example, wide leg pants were huge 10 years ago, and now they’re back. Same with denim & leather jackets, denim skirts, ruffles, chokers… I could go on and on. Point is, trends cycle around so often, so something that I do all the time is buy trendy pieces when they’re clearanced out, and save them for the next time that they resurface. I know this definitely isn’t ideal, but if you’re on a budget- it’s totally worth!!

This next tip is for all the avid blog readers out there: wait to purchase. Now I know, it can be so tempting- you see your favorite blogger wearing the cutest shoes, and you want to get them ASAP- but wait!!! The pair of wedges in this post is the perfect example of this. When the Marc Fisher wedges were literally all over Instagram, I wanted them- I needed them! But then, I waited a week before purchasing, and guess what- the perfect pair of almost identical dupes for these wedges surfaced. If you wait a little while to purchase after seeing a certain trend, chances are someone will have found an identical dupe for 1/4 of the price. Nifty, right?
