The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Gorgeous Hair

Posted in Beauty
on April 5, 2017

I definitely don’t consider myself to have any sort of expertise in the hair department, but after doing my hair for so many years, I’ve definitely developed a routine that (in my opinion) works really well, and gives me the style that I want. I get questions all the time about how I curl my hair, my favorite products, etc., so today I’m spilling the beans & sharing all my favorite hair products! These babies are products that I purchase time & time again, because they do wonders for my hair.

You’ll pretty much find my hair in one of three hairstyles- air dried/straight, beach waves,  or thrown up in a bun. I’m pretty boring when it comes to hair, as I’m sure y’all have noticed in my posts! I was blessed with straight hair, so fortunately I never really have to worry about running a straightener through my hair, which is pretty neat.

So now that y’all have a little background info about my hair type, let’s get into the goodies!

My go-to hot tool for beachy waves or big curls is my 1.5 inch curling iron from Hot Tools. I use the clamp through about half of my hair, and I use it as a wand for the other half- I personally like to alternate styles, so that I don’t end up with big chunks sticking together. I bought this curling iron more than 2 years ago, and it’s still going strong. I’m not crazy about spending hundreds of dollars on a hair tool, but I also don’t recommend using the super inexpensive ones that you find at Walmart- they can be super damaging to your hair, so it’s better to be safe! If you shop at Ulta during their sale events, you can get this curling iron for as low as $30 sometimes.

I always curl my hair in 2 parts- the bottom half first, then the top. I find that this makes it easier, and I also spray the bottom layer right after curling it, so it doesn’t fall in the time that it takes me to curl the top half. I’ve been loving this Kristin Ess hairspray- it’s super light & not too crunchy. Plus it has a nice scent, so I’m not suffocating after spraying it!

If needed, I also use dry shampoo before curling my hair. I personally hate the feeling of dirty hair, so I wash my hair more than I probably should- but this dry shampoo is awesome! It’s a little pricier than other dry shampoos, but it works super well. Another one I love is the Batiste dry shampoo. As you can see, I have black hair, so one of the most annoying things is having a white cast in my hair after using dry shampoo. Both of these are super easy to work into your hair, without leaving any white powder (nobody likes that dandruff look, am I right?)

Last but not least, I run a little oil into the ends of my hair to prevent them from drying out. Using heat products can be super damaging, so I always make sure to run some oil through my ends. I love the MoroccanOil treatment, and I use this stuff all the time- it leaves my hair silky smooth and it smells amaze-balls.

Last but not least, I like to run a brush through my hair to loosen the waves a little for a more natural look- my favorite is the Wet Brush! Having super long & thick hair can be a real pain sometimes, and this brush is my savior. It also works super well for dispersing the oil so I don’t have greasy-looking hair.

And voila! You’re done! Like I said, I’m definitely not a huge hair enthusiast, but this hair routine allows me to get the hairstyle that I want without having to spend hours primping. I like saving my time for my makeup routine 😉

What’s in My Makeup Bag

Posted in Beauty
on February 17, 2017

Happy Friday, ladies! Hope everyone had an awesome week! As for me, this week was full of my first round of exams (ew, I know.) Yesterday we talked all about wardrobe essentials, so we’re sticking with the same theme and talking all about my beauty essentials that I keep with me all the time.

I got a this new makeup bag a little while ago and I thought this would be the perfect time to share with y’all what all I keep in here! I always get so curious what people keep in their makeup bags and purses- guess you could say I’m a little too curious, haha.

Let’s get into it! First off, this cute little makeup bag is from Jon Hart Designs. It seems like everyone in Texas and their mothers all have Jon Hart stuff, but I really just couldn’t pass up this gorgeous mint color! Plus- when things are personalized, I just can’t say no. It’s a bad habit! For any of you who are looking for last minute Valentine’s Day gifts for a friend or a relative, Jon Hart’s designs are perfect. You can personalize everything, down to the heat stamp. Check their stuff out here! The makeup bag I have is linked here.

I don’t keep a ton of stuff in my makeup bag- just the things I absolutely need! I hate keeping way too much stuff packed in there, because I feel like the whole point of having a makeup bag with me in my purse is for convenience. This way, I don’t have to dig in there for forever just to find something!

First off, I keep my favorite fragrance with me at all times. I’m not one to splurge a ton on perfume, unless I absolutely love the scent. A lot of times I end up switching this one out with Dolce’s Light Blue– one of my faves too! This one I found at Urban Outfitters a few years back and it’s just stuck with me! Keeping a perfume with me is seriously essential- you never know where you’ll end up going and who you’ll end up running into. Always good to be safe!

This YSL Volupte Sheer Lipstick has saved me so many times! I love it for whenever my lips are feeling a little dry and I want some color so I don’t look like a corpse (lol.) I’ve had this bad boy for so long & he’s still going strong! Plus, the packaging is gorgeous, so can’t complain.

This Too Faced Melted Lipstick is awesome just to throw on without having to use a lipliner, lip scrub, and all that fun stuff. Easy, peezy, lemon squeezy!

Especially around winter time, my skin can get crazy dry. The worst feeling is getting in your car to go somewhere and seeing a dry patch peeking out. This Estee Lauder moisturizer has been my A1 since day 1! It’s awesome for any dry skin emergencies.

Last but not least- my beauty tools! Every girl should always have these on you at all times- makeup bag or not! You never know when a pair of tweezers and some scissors will come in handy. I can’t even tell you how many times these little guys have saved me! If you’ve never tried a pair of Tweezerman tweezers, I highly recommend it. I used to just use regular drugstore tweezers, but it’s safe to say Tweezerman tweezers have changed my life. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself. You never know when you’re going to get a splinter, or have a loose thread in your clothes- trust me, these two are absolutely necessary!

Hope you guys enjoyed this little peek into my makeup bag. Have an amazing weekend, I’ll see all of your pretty faces on Monday! xoxo

My Everyday Flawless Foundation Routine

Posted in Beauty
on February 3, 2017

Hi everyone!! I’ve gotten a ton of questions about what I use on a day-to-day basis for my foundation, so I figured I would go ahead and share a post all about my favorite face products that I use every day! I typically like to go for a more matte look in the fall/winter time, and more of a dewy look in the spring and summer. I prefer keeping things more natural- there’s seriously nothing I hate more than cake face. I pretty much use the same products every time for my foundation routine- sometimes I adventure a little bit and try out some new products, but I always end up coming back to these babies!

Face Primer: Smashbox // Foundation Stick: Anastasia Beverly Hills // Concealer: Amazing Cosmetics // BB Cream: Smashbox // Spot Concealer: Too Faced Cosmetics // Highlighter: Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill // Bronzer: MAC // Brushes (Left to Right) Elf, Real Techniques, Amazon

I have two different products that I alternate between for my base- the Smashbox BB Cream and the Anastasia foundation stick. I find that the foundation stick gives me a little more coverage, but the BB Cream is a lot more breathable and doesn’t look as cake-y. The Smashbox is my absolute favorite in the summer, but I’ll break it out sometimes in the winter if I just want something lighter with less coverage.

I’m not a huge concealer-wearer, but for the days I need a little extra coverage for blemishes that pop up here and there, I use the Born this Way concealer. It works super well for any uninvited guests you may get on your face- it’s okay, we’ve all been there!

My parents blessed me with genes that make me rarely ever get undereye bags, so I never really have the need for an under-eye concealer either. But for the days I got barely any sleep the night before, the Amazing Cosmetics concealer works perfectly for me. If any of you are in the market for a good under-eye concealer, check this one out! I get mine at Ulta, and it’s amazing.

This MAC Bronzer I believe is actually discontinued (I’m sorry!!) but I also love using the Kat Von D Shade & Light contour palette. It works super well for all skin tones, and is so travel-friendly. Those of you who followed me over from The Style Searcher know I’m a die-hard fan of Champagne Pop! I’ve been watching Jaclyn Hill for forever  so obviously I had to hop on this bandwagon. Honestly, though, even if Jaclyn Hill didn’t help create this product, I’d still love it. My holy grail!!

Last but not least, how I apply everything! I use a Beauty Blender for the cream products, but I figured it would be a good idea not to show my super gross foundation-flooded sponge. I’m so overdue to get a new one! I love using the Elf brush on the right for my bronzer. If you haven’t tried out the Elf brushes yet, I seriously recommend it! I’ve washed it plenty of times and it’s pulled through for a good 2-3 years now. A great quality brush for an amazing price!

The Real Techniques brush works great for my under-eye area, and doubles as a highlighting brush. The last brush I use for baking. I rarely ever bake, but when I want to go for a more dramatic, sharp contour, it works like a dream.

I hope this helps you guys out a little! These products are my absolute faves, so I hope you guys love them as much as I do. As always, if you have any questions on the products themselves or how I apply them, shoot me a comment!

Battle of the Liquid Lippies

Posted in Beauty
on January 20, 2017

For those of you who don’t already know, I’m a lip product hoarder. I may or may not have a borderline addiction, but you know what? I’m choosing to embrace it… haha! When liquid lipsticks started becoming a big trend a little over a year ago, I couldn’t help but to try them all (but at least now you guys don’t have to!) I’ve pretty much tried everything under the sun- high end, drugstore, somewhere in between- I’ve tested them all!

Today I’m sharing my absolute favorites and my not-so-favorites! I have all of these in a few different colors, but for blog purposes, I thought it would be easiest just to show y’all my favorites of each! Brace yourself, this one’s a long one…

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick: 7/10

Starting this post off with a bang! This formula is one of my favorites. They have a huge color selection, and the formula itself is great. The only issue I have with it is that it can be a tad drying, and some of the shades have glitter. I’m not a huge glitter fan, but if you are, these would be a great option!

Gerard Cosmetics Hydra-Matte Liquid Lipstick: 2/10

Sorry, Gerard Cosmetics! I absolutely hate this formula. I know Gerard has a little bit of a cult following, but I’m really just not a fan. The formula is super drying, isn’t long lasting, and peels off super easily. The first time I tried these, I thought that I just got a dud- but after making a second order with a few more shades for variety, I realized it’s just the natural formula of the product. Two thumbs down from me!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick: 7.5/10

I’m a big fan of this one! I know they can be a little too drying for some people, but it works really well for me. The only thing I wish they had more of is color selection for nudes!

Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit: 8/10

To be very blunt, I thought that Kylie Cosmetics was going to suck when I first heard about the launch of the line. But… surprisingly, they’re actually pretty freaking great. These are one of my favorite formulas, and I wear Dolce alllll the time. Reign is another one of my faves! The only thing that sucks about buying from Kylie is shipping costs, but now she offers free shipping with a $40+ purchase. Definitely worth a try if you’ve been reluctant!

Wet ‘n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit: 6/10

For a drugstore line, this liquid lippie is bomb. You can barely even tell that it’s not high end. The formula’s great, the packaging’s awesome, and best of all- the price seriously cannot be beat! The only thing I have to say about this one is to watch out for the shade Video Vixen- this one applies super patchy, and isn’t transfer proof. All of the other colors, though- two thumbs up!

L’Oreal Infallible Lip Paint: 4/10

First things first, this product has a little bit of a weird smell. I’m not a huge fan of this one, but it does what it needs to, and is good for the price. I would say that if maybe for some reason you don’t have access to Wet ‘n Wild, go for the L’Oreal. Otherwise, the Wet ‘n wild would be a much better option!

NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick: 5/10

This one is pretty good too! It applies as more of a cream, but I love it because it’s not super drying. You can find it at virtually any drug store, but I always grab mine from Ulta since they always have coupons.

Colourpop Liquid Lippie: 4/10

I’ve heard that Colourpop has revamped their formula, but I haven’t tried their “new and improved” version yet. As for the ones that I tried, I’m really not a fan. They’re extremely thin, and so drying. But if you need something to last long, this one’s awesome for that!

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Longwear Liquid Lip: 8/10

I actually really love this one!! Does everything a liquid lip should do, and feels super comfortable. Love!!

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint: 3/10

In my opinion, I’m not even sure whether or not to include this one. It feels a lot more like a cream than a liquid lipstick, but they’re advertised as a liquid lip. Definitely not smudge-proof.

Buxom Wildly Whipped Liquid Lip: 2/10

Same as the Tarte one- it’s not smudge-proof, and it transfers like crazy. I also had to put on multiple layers for a good smooth finish.

NARS Velvet Lip Guide: 4/10

This one applies like a cream, but comes off as a matte finish liquid lip. It’s actually pretty good in my opinion, but for the price I would expect something above and beyond.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick: 9/10

Ahhh, one of the OG liquid lippies! I loooove the Anastasia formula, and it’s a good price too. Not too dry, long-lasting, and a super wide color selection. What more can a girl ask for?

Butter London Lippy: 6/10

I like this one a lot, but it definitely doesn’t compare to some of my other faves. I’d say that if there’s a unique color you see and have to have, go for it, but otherwise, stick to some of the surefire ones. I have a few colors of these, and they’re inconsistent- some colors are great, and others are not-so-great.

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain: 8/10

This one is one of my favorites!! I forgot to shoot this one, but it’s definitely a banger. They’re super inexpensive, easily-accessible, and has an awesome formula. Definitely try it out if you haven’t already!!

Whew- we made it to the end, YAY!!! If you’re still here, leave me a comment!! Let me know if I’ve left any of your favorite liquid lipsticks out, I’d love to try some new ones that I haven’t already!
