Dreaming of Summer

Posted in Fashion, Outfits
on April 14, 2017

We’re at that time of year where I begin dreaming of sand between my toes & wind in my hair, sitting on a beach drinking fruity goodness… but I guess for now a day at the pool will have to do! Summer time is one of my favorite times of year for fashion because of all the bright, fun colors. If it was up to me, I would make bright colors a year-round thing!

It was love at first sight when I saw this bag- who’s with me?! Tassels are huge this season, so I couldn’t resist getting this baby. The best part- it’s under $40!!

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I’m a pretty simple girl- this outfit is definitely no exception! Both this top and bag are from Lulu’s, and I already know I’ll be wearing this top non-stop through spring and summer. My style often consists of super classic & simple pieces, with a little pop of color or something more bold.

Do any of y’all have plans for Easter weekend? Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it back home this Easter, because I have a jam-packed weekend of work & catching up on school. Y’all- I just registered for my LAST semester of college, and had my last appointment with my advisor. It’s all becoming so real!! Soon I’ll be sending in my application for graduation too. I’ve been thinking about doing a college advice post- would any of y’all be interested in that? If yes- send me questions or topics that you’d like me to cover!

Anyway, hope all of you have an awesome weekend- happy Easter to those who celebrate!! ❤️

The Perfect Dress for Easter

Hello friends!! I’m racing against time as I’m writing this with my last 3% of battery on my computer- I left my laptop charger back home in Dallas, but I didn’t want to leave y’all without a post tomorrow, so here’s hoping I finish before my laptop dies!

With Easter coming up this week, I wanted to share this pretty little number with y’all! I’m sure if you follow fashion blogs, you’ve seen this similar dress with puffy sleeves & lace detailing. Buuuut, I found this dupe for less than $40- crazy!! You get the exact same look, but for so much less. I love the lace detailing on it- it makes it so feminine & flirty, & the white is so crisp.

I paired it with my fave wedges of the season, & kept the accessories simple with just a plain light pink crossbody & my fave earrings. So simple + effortless, but fun for spring & perfect for all your Easter festivities!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend- I picked up a TON of things while I was back home, so I can’t wait to shoot them all for you this week! Have a great week, friends!! xoxo

March 2017 Round-Up

Posted in Lifestyle, Monthly Round-Ups
on April 3, 2017

Happy April!! A quarter of the year is already half over- can you believe it?! Insane.

15 minutes ago, I was debating on whether to even do a monthly round-up for March- for some reason, I thought I didn’t have enough to share, so I looked in my camera roll to see what all I did this month. Turns out there’s actually quite a bit that happened this month, so I’m excited to be sharing it with all of you.

Let’s jump right into it, starting with the first weekend in March that I spent back home Dallas, Texas. In case you missed it, I did a whole post on my new blogger friend Jess. It was so fun to sit down & have lunch with her- cheers to new friends!

Also in the month of March, Akash & I discovered our new favorite restaurant in College Station- Blackwater Draw! If you follow me on Instagram (which you should) you’ve probably seen some of the pictures I took there- SO YUMMY. For any of you who are in the College Station/Bryan area, it’s a must try if you haven’t been already! Their food is to die for.

Akash & I also went on spring break on the 12th, and had so much fun in New Orleans. I’m sure you’ve all seen it, but I’ve linked the post here in case you missed it! Definitely check out that post if you’re visiting the city anytime soon- I took y’all day by day through our first time in the city of jazz.

After our trip to New Orleans, I spent 4 days back home in Dallas just catching up with friends & spending time with my family. Home is my favorite place to be! My best friend Melody & I took a trip to the Texas Tulips field in Pilot Point, Texas. It was incredibly windy, but it was fun to see it & take some cute photos. It was also during this trip that I got news that I got the internship I’d wanted!! Definitely a highlight of the month. 🙂

I had two collabs this month, and they were both so much fun to take part in! The girls at The Mint Julep Boutique & Dizzy Shoes were both so much fun to work with, and it makes me super excited for all the projects I have coming up in the near future… keep an eye out! 😉

I also shared this gorgeous maxi dress on the blog earlier in the month, and it’s probably one of my favorite pieces that I’ve featured on the blog yet. Check out the post here!

So that’s all I have for y’all today- hope you enjoyed this short & sweet monthly round-up! Here’s to a great start to April- yay!!

When Life Gives You Lemons

Wear a lemon printed romper! When I saw this adorable romper at Francesca’s I knew I had to have it- can we just take a moment and talk about how fun it is?! I’m in love! This outfit’s giving me serious summer time vibes, and I just want to plan a beach trip so I can have an excuse to break this romper out- even though let’s be honest, I’ll more than likely be wearing it nonstop anyway. Y’all know I’m a huge fan of color; I’ve never been one of those girls whose closets are 90% black, with a little mix of grey & white. I love color year round, so obviously spring & summer are my favorite seasons for fashion!

One of my fave outfit combos for spring and summer are a romper with my favorite (comfortable) wedges. As much as I love getting dolled up, I live for being comfortable! Y’all Texas girls know how unbearable the Texas heat can get, so even though I would love to be wearing jeans in the summer, I’m definitely not trying to sweat buckets after spending just 10 minutes outside!

This outfit would be perfect for dinner out with your gal pals, or any casual events you have going on this spring. Unfortunately Shop Style doesn’t support Francesca’s on their platform, so I’ve linked this romper here! I have, however, linked a similar style below with everything else from this look!

Have a great rest of your week, friends!!

New Orleans Travel Diary

Posted in Travel, Travel Guides
on March 17, 2017

As I’m writing this post, I’m currently on the long (somewhat grueling) 8-hour drive back to Dallas! Akash & I just left the wonderful city of New Orleans, and thanks to the amazing invention of personal hotspots, I’m writing this post covering our trip while it’s still fresh on my mind.

This was the first time to New Orleans for both of us, so we definitely opted for the sightseeing experience rather than the Bourbon street experience. If you’re wanting to take a trip to a city where you can explore all the random nooks & crannies, New Orleans is perfect for that! We spent 4 days here, and to be totally honest, we definitely ran through our itinerary in just two. Basically what I’m trying to say is that there’s not a TON to see, so if you’re not wanting to do a ton of walking & exploring, NOLA might not be your favorite spot.

With that said, let’s jump into all the fun things we did and saw on our trip!

Day 1

We got up at 5 AM (ugh) on Sunday, and embarked on our 7 hour drive to Louisiana! The drive really wasn’t that bad- given, I slept for a large part of it (sorry, Akash.) Our first stop upon arriving in the city was walking around the French Quarter before our 4pm check-in at our AirBnb. We had to pay $20 for 2-hour parking which kind of sucked, but we had a good time walking around the French Quarter.

The #1 thing on my list for our trip to New Orleans was to try beignets- I’ve seen everyone and their mother post about these on Instagram, so I was dying to try them myself! We made our way over to Cafe du Monde, and stayed in line for a good 5 minutes before realizing that it would probably take a good 2 hours to make it through the line. I had heard a lot of good things about Cafe Beignet, and it was right down the street so we made our way over.

The wait at Cafe Beignet was only 10-20 minutes, and all of the staff there was so nice! Needless to say, we enjoyed our little snack.

After Cafe Beignet, we spent the rest of the afternoon just wandering around the French Quarter, and taking some fun pictures.

4m rolled around, and we eventually headed over to our AirBnb. I shared the place we were staying on my Insta stories, and got a ton of questions asking about where we stayed, if we liked it, what neighborhood we were in, etc., so I decided to go ahead and link it for you guys in case anyone else is wanting to visit the city & is looking for a place to stay.

Akash & I both loved the place that we stayed at- it was extremely clean, beautifully decorated, in a safe neighborhood, and perfect for a couple visiting the city. The only thing I can say is that I do wish it was a little closer to the French Quarter- driving over to the French Quarter took on average 15 minutes; 30 minutes with traffic. Other than that, we both had such a great first experience using AirBnb.

If any of you are visiting New Orleans anytime soon, I’ve linked the place here– definitely check it out!

After settling into our room, we headed out for dinner at Parkway Bakery & Tavern for some po-boys. I actually got a ton of recommendations from you guys on my Instagram to stop by for their po-boys, and they definitely didn’t disappoint! I ordered the golden shrimp and Akash got the roast beef; he didn’t like his too much, but I devoured mine in a matter of minutes. We also tried their ice cream sandwiches, which were alright- they advertise them as homemade, but they were packaged like any other ice cream sandwiches you could find at a Walmart. In my personal opinion, not worth the $4.50 each that we paid.

Day 2

I actually had an interview for an internship I’m applying to for this summer on Monday morning, so the majority of this morning was taken up for that. After my interview, though, we headed out for my favorite meal- brunch!! Per your recommendations again (can you tell the trend here?) Akash & I had a delicious brunch at the Ruby Slipper Cafe in Uptown. This one tops the list as my favorite meal that I had while in New Orleans. I’ve been to a ton of brunch places (breakfast/brunch food is my FAVE) but this one definitely makes the list of my all-time favorite brunch spots! Akash & I both ordered the Chicken St. Charles, and it was to die for. Seriously thinking about it now is making my mouth water, haha.

After brunch, we wandered around the area into Harrah’s and the Shops at Canal Place. I always find it funny how no matter where we go we always somehow end up at a mall. We spent a little while wandering in the shopping center, and then headed back into the French Quarter. We spent a while just strolling around Bourbon Street, appreciating all of the pretty architecture that we don’t see much of back in Dallas.

We also paid a visit to Jackson Square, and went inside the cathedral as well. At this point I was dying to see what the hype over Cafe du Monde was all about- every single time we passed the Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter, the line was about a mile long! I checked my GPS and discovered there were actually multiple locations, one being just a mile away, so Akash & I made our way to the Cafe du Monde at the Riverwalk Outlets. It was a little bit of a longer walk, but you can actually go by the riverside and it’s a super relaxing & scenic walk. The weather was just bright enough for some fun pictures but a little breezy, so we were comfortable.

By the time that we had walked around the whole area by the riverwalk, Akash & I were both exhausted, so we headed back to the neighborhood where we were staying. We found this little pizza place called Reginelli’s, and then we headed straight home.

Day 3/4

Day 3 & 4 were pretty uneventful- we basically went back for more beignets like 3 times, and spent a little bit of time browsing the shopping centers in the city. On Tuesday, though, we did get a chance to stop by Dat Dog for some amazinggg hot dogs!

Later that day, we also swung by District Donuts. For all my Texas girls- it’s a lot like Gourdough’s, but (to be very honest) not as good. My expectations for this place were pretty high, and it wasn’t as good as I thought it’d be. I ordered the Berries & Cream donut, and Akash got the Cookies & Milk.

On our last day in New Orleans, Akash & I finally got to stop by this brunch place that I’d heard so much about- Surrey’s Care & Juice Bar. As you can pretty much see in this post, Akash & I aren’t crazy about Cajun food… but when we came here, I had heard so much about their amazing shrimp & grits, so I decided to give it a try. Y’all- IT. WAS. SO. GOOD. We also got their apple juice to try, and that was amaze-balls too. If you’re in the area, this place is a must-try!

Whew- that’s it for part 1 of my New Orleans travel diary! Congrats to all of you who made it to the end! 🙂
