Get the Most Out of Your Beauty Sleep

Who doesn’t love sleeping? I sure do. Probably more than most, haha. Sleep is honestly my first priority when it comes to self-care! I don’t care how hard I have to work during the day to get all my sh*t done, when it comes to bed time & shutting off it’s an absolute non-negotiable. Every night, I make sure to go to bed early enough so that I can let my body wake up naturally, rather than to an alarm. I find that this is a HUGE piece of keeping my sanity during the work week. While not all of us are able to fit in 8 hours for sleep every night (even though you should!!) I’m sharing a few tips of how to get the most of the sleep you’re able to get!

Sleep with a silk pillowcase

So I shared this silk pillowcase on Instagram last week, and the response was overwhelming of how many of you love them! I also got a ton of questions about the true benefits of sleeping on silk. Based on the research I’ve done, silk is supposed to be amazing for your hair and skin. The natural properties of silk, including its smooth surface, can help reduce friction on your hair which often causes damage, like spilt ends. Not only that, I find that because the fabric is so soft and gentle, it just feels amazing on my skin at night. Also, it helps you keep cool!

Unplug 30 minutes before going to bed

I used to be awful about this! In truth, I used to fall asleep watching shows or Instagram stories. More specifically, I would leave my show going on all night so I could fall asleep to sound. This sounds funny, but I found that sometimes this would effect my dreams. It makes sense, though- the last thoughts you have when going to sleep can totally have an effect on what you dream about and what’s on your mind. So make sure the last thoughts you have when going to bed are positive ones!

Don’t work in bed

I know some people love to do work in bed, but i’m a big believer in keeping your bed as a place for rest. There are studies that show that working or eating in bed have negative effects on your sleep! Something to keep in mind next time you feel like answering emails in bed.

Take advantage of the time you’re sleeping

My sleeping time is one that I always make sure to take advantage of when it comes to skin or hair care! We spend 8 hours every night sleeping, and this is valuable time that your skin could be breathing or soaking in product. I love putting on a really rich moisturizer when I go to bed, and this helps me wake up with amazing glowy skin. Sometimes I’ll even throw in a hair treatment when I go to bed, and shower in the morning.
