Since being in quarantine, I’ve made it a mission to take at the very least 1 walk outside in my neighborhood daily. It quickly became one of my favorite parts of my day! I love taking a relaxing walk around the neighborhood, enjoying the California sunshine and all the blooming flowers in our area. Even though LA air is pretty polluted (lol) I still enjoy getting ‘fresh’ air when I can. It’s something I look forward to every morning, and sets my day on the right foot before starting work!
One of the reasons I love my walks so much is that it gives me a chance to listen to some of my favorite podcasts. Podcasts have been my favorite thing since discovering them a couple years ago, so I thought it might be fun to share some of my current favorites. I wrote the same post a couple years ago, so if you want some more recs you can check out that post!
So let’s just dive in, shall we?
TLDR: Here’s a handy little widget in case y’all just want to skip the explanations and get straight into the good stuff.
Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard
I just can’t write this post without having this podcast as my number 1!! Since they started this podcast, I’ve heard so many things about it, but to be honest never really gave it a shot until pretty recently. A few months ago, I think I was watching a video of Gwenyth Paltrow (or maybe it was another podcast she was on?) and she mentioned her episode on Armchair Expert, and I decided to give it a shot. After the first 30 minutes I was HOOKED. I’ve now gone back and listened to nearly every episode since the 1st one, and have loved every minute of it. I actually listened to it a ton during our trip to France earlier this year; I still remember listening to the Jason Bateman episode on our train through Marseilles. I was silently laughing my ass off on the train – just magical.
Anyway, without going too deep into it, I really love how Dax & Monica just make you feel like a part of the crew. It’s incredible how relatable they are, even though Dax Shepard has ultra-celeb status and hangs out with some of the biggest celebs in the world.
A few of my favorite episodes:
- Laurie Santos (she’s the Yale professor who teaches the Happiness class!)
- Both of the Ashton Kutcher episodes (I LOVED these; they had me laughing the entire time. No joke)
- Emilia Clarke
- Justin Long (one of my absolute faves)
If you’re a fan of entrepreneurial/girl power type podcasts, this is a great one. Hillary Kerr interviews a new female CEO every episode, and it never disappoints. There are a ton of episodes that are great, but here are a few faves:
- Eva Chen (Director of Fashion Partnerships @ Instagram)
- Emma Grede (Co-founder of Good American)
- Alli Webb (Founder of Drybar)
Another girl boss-type show, but a good one! This one’s hosted by Jaclyn Johnson, who founded Create & Cultivate. It’s a little more light-hearted than Second Life IMO.
Scrubbing in with Becca Tilley & Tanya Rad
I honestly didn’t expect to like this one, but it’s quickly become one of my favorites. These girls are hilarious & so down to earth, I feel like we’re real life friends. I look forward to Mondays because that’s when they release new episodes, and I don’t think I’ve ever skipped a single episode. I find myself laughing along every week, and I love every minute of it. If you want to check it out, I’d advise starting from the beginning, not because it’s chronological, but because there are a lot of inside jokes you might not get if you haven’t been listening for a while.
If you’ve ever been curious about how random stuff works, this is a really great one. They have topics that I’ve honestly never even thought about, but make things that we don’t think about often super interesting. I don’t listen to every single episode with this one though; I usually pick and choose which ones I find to be most interesting.
I love all things GP, let’s be real. They talk about a ton of different topics, from beauty trends to wellness hacks, to entrepreneurship and career chats, to trending political topics. I feel like this podcast really changes my perspective on different things, and opens my eyes to new concepts and things I might not have known otherwise. Every time I listen I learn something, and I love that!
