Okay, so here’s the deal. I looove all things beauty. Makeup, skincare, haircare, I love it all – reading about it, shopping for it, and chatting with my friends about it. However, when you work a full time job that requires the majority of your time, you don’t always have the time for a 20 step beauty routine.
Absolutely no shade intended, but I feel like most full-time influencers don’t 100% understand the routines of working gals. You don’t always have the time to go through this giant process with 90 different products. Sometimes you roll out of bed 20 minutes after your alarm goes off, and you have exactly 15 minutes to pull yourself together and head out the door. The best skincare routine is one that fits its owner – so maybe that just means having a select few products that work really damn well for you. I’ve learned this for myself over the course of the last year, so I wanted to share a few tips to getting a great skincare routine without all the hassle.
Focus on the essentials
When it comes to the skincare business, there tends to be a lot of “fluff” products that may or may not actually do anything, but because it’s marketed well you’re convinced that you have to have it. I’m not going to lie, I definitely fall for this too. There are so many products that I’ve used (and probs still use) that aren’t effective. That said, there are some absolutely necessities. You need a good cleanser that’s a ride or die. A good cleanser helps to take the day off – all the gunk from being out and about, makeup leftover, and prep your skin for moisturizer. It’s like soap – for your face.
Another must is a serum or an oil. No matter what, even if you prefer to be as least fussy as possible, you need a treatment for your face. Some of my favorites include Vitamin C serums (the Drunk Elephant one is amazeee) but also a good day/night oil can go a long way. My current favorite is this one by Mara. You only have one face, and it lasts you your whole life. Invest in it! This is the one thing that I think is definitely worth splurging on. A good serum will go a long ass way.
Last but not least, a moisturizer. If you live in a climate that gets to both extremes of hot and cold, you might have to find a good winter moisturizer and a separate one for summer. However, if you’re like me and live somewhere that’s pretty temperate, you’re probably good with just one. My absolute favorite is the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream – I’ve gone through at least 4 jars of this stuff and it is so. good. Do yourself a favor and get a sample from Sephora. Thank me later.
Keep it clean
So there are a lot of things that you can do to prevent having to get a fussy skincare regimen. If you choose products that work well for you, you don’t have to worry about skin imperfections as often. Another tip I learned from a friend of mine is using paper towels to dry your face instead of a regular towel. The reason being is that you can use it once and toss it – which helps to make sure that you’re not rubbing bacteria all over your face for days on end until you wash your towel again.
Another thing to watch out for is touching your face. I have a lot of friends who are constantly touching their faces, and it drives me crazy. Imagine all the nasty things you touch unintentionally during a day of work – you’re then rubbing that all over your face. Ew! A super easy way to prevent breakouts and clogged pores is just by keeping your skin as clean as possible.
Take it easy on the makeup!
I know this one can be hard for some people, but honestly if you don’t clog your pores as often, your skin will thank you, and it will be so much prettier naturally. For the times that you absolutely have to wear makeup, just make sure you wash your face really well.
