After this trip back home last week and experiencing Texas weather for the last few days, I am definitely well aware that it’s officially SUMMER! Crazy that we’re already halfway into July. Time flies! This past weekend when I was home, I started reading Mark Manson’s “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck.” After finishing that book, it got me thinking. I used to love reading SO much, but stopped reading because I didn’t have a whole lot of time once I started college.
Now that I’m working, I still don’t have a ton of time… but I should make time! For the past little while, I’ve been spending 30 minutes to an hour every night to myself, just reading in a corner of the apartment. It’s been so much fun, and I figured I would share some of my favorites with y’all in case you want to join along! Forewarning: quite a few of these are from Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club list – if you’re looking for some good reads to start this summer, I highly recommend checking out this list! A ton of great recommendations.
Where the Crawdads Sing
I feel like everyone and their moms are currently reading this book, but it’s SO GOOD. Saturday night I stayed up until 3am reading it, and was so sad when I finished it. The beginning of the book starts off a little slow, but picks up pretty quickly. It’s a beautiful coming-of-age story, and I love the way the author paints the picture of the South in the 50s. Such a sweet book about a young girl growing up, learning about the world, and falling in love.
The Other Woman
Such a funny read! It’s the perfect book to bring along with you to the beach. I don’t want to spoil too much before y’all get a chance to read it, but it’s a good one with a couple twists that you don’t expect. PS: this is a different story than the movie with Cameron Diaz!
The Stationery Shop
I’m not going to lie, I judged this book by the cover. The cover art is so gorgeous, which is why I gravitated to immediately when I saw it at the bookstore. Thank God the book itself was great too! It talks about a couple that falls in love in Tehran, and the wife that finds herself in America after they get married and isn’t quite sure what to think of it. Such an interesting perspective on life and love!
The Last House Guest
If you love mysteries, you’ll love this one. To be honest, I also gravitated to this one because of the cover art… but I ended up really enjoying it! I love summertime/summer house themed books, so this one was perfect. If you have an upcoming beach trip planned, this one’s a great one to bring along!
Is There Still Sex in the City?
If you loved the Sex and the City, this one’s a guarantee. Candace Bushnell, who wrote Sex and the City, came out with a new book all about dating in the city in your 50s. Such a fun read, and definitely a must for anyone who loved the Sex and the City series!
