The LA Diaries

The LA Diaries

Is anyone else in shock that it’s already June?! I can’t believe that at the end of this month, we’ll already be half way through the year. Crazy! So today’s post I think is going to be a fun one. I think the most frequently asked question I’ve received in the past few months is “How’s the move to LA?” I made the move from Dallas to LA on April 16th, so it’s been just a bit over a month and a half in my new city. To document this time in my life, I thought it might be fun to start this new series to share all the deets. Introducing, the LA diaries!

So to start off, I’ve had a few questions about how long I plan on staying in LA. The answer is I have no idea! I’m pretty much taking it day by day and going with the flow- wherever the wind takes me! As of now, my lease is signed for a year, so I’ll be staying in LA for at least that long! Unless something else comes along, of course. So far I’m truly enjoying living alone for the first time, meeting new people, and discovering my new city. It’s been so much fun!

It’s so crazy how different things in LA are than in Dallas. Thankfully, I’ve kept pretty busy for the past month or so, so I haven’t had too much time feeling lonely in a new city. That’s not to say I haven’t had rough nights here and there, though! Long distance relationships are pretty tough, I’m not going to lie. FaceTime is our best friend. 🙂

Being independent in a city as amazing as LA most definitely has its perks. There’s always something going on near me, and since I don’t really know anyone I have the freedom to say yes to everything I want to. And say no to everything I want to, as well!

I’ve really started to fall in love with the area I’m in. For those of you who didn’t know (I didn’t know until I moved, don’t worry) LA is HUGE. And I don’t even mean just the population. LA isn’t just one city- LA is an entire county. There are so many districts and cities within LA- it would probably take you a good 1.5-2 hours to drive across all of LA. I work and live in West Hollywood, which just happens to be a super trendy, fun area. Thankfully my office is only a 10 minute walk from my house. I’ve come to truly enjoy my morning and afternoon walks- it’s a great way for me to get my blood pumping before and after work!

Since I did bring a car to LA, getting to and from everywhere has been super easy. The only negative thing I can point out is the parking. Parking is such a nuisance everywhere you go! But I guess that just comes with the territory of being in a heavily populated city. Oh, Texas- I will forever love you and your never ending real estate!

I’ve always heard that things are insanely expensive in LA, but I’ve found that to not really be the case. There are a few exceptions, though. Gas? I don’t even want to talk about it. Rent? I want to faint just thinking about it. But everything else- I definitely think it could be worse! I can have a solid meal for under $15 (of course, I’m eating at very casual places- no fancy restaurants with my budget.) Moving into and furnishing a new place has been quite an investment, but as of now I think I’m pretty much finished with purchasing furniture and decor for my apartment. For now.

Is there anything else y’all are curious about from the move? Let me know and I’ll include that in my next update! Have a great week, friends!
