It’s that time of year again, friends! The oh-so-famous Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Every year, thousands of bloggers swarm Nordstrom and purchase every item included in the sale, and tell you that you need all 10 of the cardigans on sale. Am I right or am I right? I’ve definitely been guilty of it in the past too, so my hands aren’t clean either. I think after being a bit removed from the ‘blogger scene’ (especially in Dallas, where most people wear and post about all the same things!) I’ve come to develop my own feelings about this yearly tradition. I’m going to keep this post positive and focus on only the good, but if you’re looking for a good summary of my thoughts on the #NSale, go check out Courtney Kerr’s story on it. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
This is just a friendly reminder that no matter what an influencer tells you, you don’t need all 10 of those cardigans, and basic tees in every color. Y’all are smart – just shop for the things you actually need and that actually get you excited. Set a budget, and pick the items you actually love. No need to fall into any peer pressure here. 🙂 All that said, there are absolutely some items that I think are worth purchasing in the sale! It’s a great time to snag items from your favorite brands, especially in some new designs and trends that are exciting for fall.
This year, I only bought a handful of items that I actually thought were great additions to my wardrobe, for a good price. I dig snag a couple bigger ticket pieces, but I’ll explain more about the thought process behind each. Just FYI – right now the sale is open to Nordstrom cardholders, until July 19th. On July 19th, it opens to the public. Things usually sell out in the first couple of days, so if there’s anything you have your eye on, I’d snag it earlier rather than later. Nordstrom has a great return policy, so you can always purchase it ahead of time, try it on in the comfort of your home, then return if you decide against it.
First things first, the item that I’m most excited about: this AllSaints Lia Mac Trench Coat! The price makes me cringe a little bit, but here’s how I justify it. Every time I purchase something new, I always think about my Cost Per Wear. I’ve talked about this before a couple times in the past few years, but basically if you divide the price of the item by how many times you plan to wear it, you can estimate your CPW.
For example, perhaps you purchase a cheap trendy swimsuit from Target for $30, to take on vacation with you. Next summer, you probably won’t pull that swimsuit back out again. That cost per wear is $30. But then, if you take, for example, a pair of Chanel earrings (roughly $500). You plan to wear them every day, as part of your staple everyday jewelry. Over even just a year, your cost per wear is already down to $1.37. Some people may say I have a shopping problem, but it’s math, people! 😉 Jokes aside, it is a great way that I use to measure if an item that I have my eye on is worth it or not. I’d rather invest in a nicer quality item that’s a bit more expensive, than having to purchase several inexpensive items because they don’t last as long or are just more trendy.
ANYWAY – I’ve been looking for a trench coat for years – I actually have had my eye on the Burberry coat for so long. After trying on a few different variations of the Burberry coat, I really wasn’t a fan of the silhouette on me. When I saw this coat online, I fell in love. I love how the color isn’t a typical khaki like most trench coats are, and AllSaints is a brand I love. It’s supposed to arrive in 9 days – as soon as it arrives I’ll snap a photo of mine and share it with y’all!
Last year during the sale, I snagged a couple pairs of jeans – one pair of Topshop jeans and one from Rag & Bone. I still wear both of these every single week! Since denim silhouette trends change every couple of years, I prefer purchasing my denim during sale times, rather than getting something full price. If you’ve had your eye on a good pair of jeans, now’s a good time to snag a pair! Here are a couple of my personal favorites that I think would look cute on anyone. I didn’t personally purchase any jeans this year though.
One item that I picked up today, actually, is this set of pajamas. I was influenced by Rachel Parcell from Pink Peonies to snag these, after hearing her rave about how she wears them to bed every night. I tried them on as soon as I got home, and it’s safe to say these are the softest things I’ve ever put on my body. Akash even said he was so jealous, and wishes there was this kind of stuff for guys. The sizing is pretty standard – I normally wear a medium, and I got a medium. It fits perfectly!
However, I didn’t realize until I got home that I rarely wear long pants to sleep, so I’m thinking about switching out my set for this nightshirt instead. The material can’t be beat though!
Since moving to LA, I’ve been loving button downs with casual skinny or boyfriend jeans and a pair of heels or flats. I purchased these three – not for the price necessarily, but just because they caught my eye and I loved the design! This Topshop one if my absolute fave; as soon as I saw it on the site, I knew I had to have it. Silk blouses are so in right now, and this one is a great price. I went in person today to feel the material before writing this post for y’all, and it really is as soft as it looks. I think it’ll be a great all-season piece, since the color is so universal. I got the baby blue color, but the beige one is gorgeous too!
Things I’m Thinking About Getting
I felt like this section was necessary to share with y’all, since there were a couple of items that I liked, but wasn’t sure if I thought they were worth it or not. A couple of them have sold out, which is why I wasn’t able to get them, but I wanted to share them with y’all anyway because they usually always restock when the sale opens to the public, so if you guys see anything you like you can snag them then.
