Who doesn’t love a good splurge every now and then? I sure do! Anyone who collects designer items has at least one (or 10) items in their closet that is a major regret, myself included. As I was organizing my closet a few days ago, I started looking at all the bags I keep but haven’t used in forever. For a few of these items, I feel so guilty about them every time I look at them! But I figured – maybe if I write about this, at least they won’t have been for nothing, right? So without further ado, here are my most regretful designer purchase. Enjoy!
Louis Vuitton Speedy
Everyone considers this to be a major staple bag, but to be totally honest, it’s probably my #1 least worn bag ever. I have it in the 25 size, and it’s one of the most impractical bags that I have. The bag itself does fit quite a bit, but unfortunately the zipper isn’t super wide, so getting things out of it is a hassle. I bought the black version, hoping that it would match more of my looks, but that ended up being a mistake, and made the resale value drop pretty heavily. Because it’s not worth very much in the resale market, I unfortunately have it sitting around in my closet not getting any wear.
The plus side on this though, is that when I bought this bag from the Real Real, I got it on a major deal. So I don’t feel as guilty about it… I know I’m justifying, but just let me have this one, okay?
Designer Fashion Jewelry
This is one that I cringe at myself for purchasing, to be totally honest. Last year, I went through a bit of a phase purchasing designer fashion jewelry. I purchased a couple pairs of the Chanel classic CC earrings, as well as a few Gucci pieces. Let me tell you – after the first month that I bought them, these have gotten basically 0 use. They’re pretty in my jewelry case, sure, but that’s pretty much the only utility they have. Unfortunate, I know. With the earrings I have specifically, they have the standard plastic earring backs, which makes me terrified of losing them, because they’re so expensive.
If you’re looking to splurge on a designer item but don’t have a ton of cash to spend, it’s easy to want to get a pair of nice designer earrings. However, I’d advise you to save your money for something bigger that you’ll get a ton of wear out of. Granted, if you do wear jewelry a lot, and you know you’ll wear them a lot, then I’d say go for it. I wear jewelry every day, but my most worn pieces are actually my Mejuri items. I’ve even wrote a whole post about this – I wrote it almost a year ago to the date, and these are still my daily staples.
Designer Belts
This one might be super controversial, but I wanted to be honest! Before they were everywhere, I really loved the Gucci belts and also bought myself an Hermes belt too. Major mistake (for me.) These are such trendy items, I can guarantee you that in 5-10 years, they’ll be out. I also feel like as I get older, I tend to stray away from pieces that have huge logos screaming out. I love designer items, don’t get me wrong, but I think the amount of logos that are so obnoxious have become slightly distasteful. Don’t kill me for saying this!
Christian Dior Sandals
Okay, I’m cringing as I write this one. Maybe because it’s the most recent (and most painful.) Around Black Friday, Akash and I went to Nordstrom, and I took a few of my returns with me. I ended up with about $100ish of store credit, and had a few gift cards that totaled $400ish. We browsed around the fancy shoes, and I spotted this pair Christian Dior sandals. I immediately fell head over heels. It’s rare that an item totally captivates me, and I was so in love. Since I had the store credit and gift cards, I pounced at them and bought them without even thinking twice. Probably the most impulsive purchase I’ve ever made. For the first day I wore them, I loved them so so much. I got so many compliments, and I felt a jolt of happiness every time I looked down at my feet.
Now 2 months in, they’re one of my biggest regrets. (Don’t tell Akash though – he told me in the beginning not to get them, lol. Probs should’ve listened.) They’re not super comfortable for walking, and I’m terrified of getting them scratched or dirtying them. I went to dinner with friends once, wearing the shoes, and someone accidentally stepped on the heel of my shoe and I about flipped out. Yikes. You probably won’t see me purchasing designer shoes anytime soon, to be totally honest.
What are your expensive purchase regrets?! After writing this post, I think it might be fun to write about my favorite designer purchases. Is this something you’d be interested? Lmk!
