Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Today’s post is a little different than my usual posts, but bare with me! With everything going on out in the world right now, I know a lot of us have been feeling pretty anxious, scared, lonely… or even unsure about how to feel. For the last couple months, I’ve definitely felt a little bit lost, not sure of what to expect, how to keep myself busy, struggling to get creative, etc. That said, something I thought would be fun to do is to write a post just sharing some of the things that made me happy lately! I’m a big believer in the ‘little things,’ so even if one of the things I share makes you even the tiniest bit happier I’ll consider it a success.

I’m expecting that this will probably be all over the place but, here we go!

Oat milk

Yes, I’m being serious! I know a lot of people hate on cow’s milk, but I’m the first to admit that I’ve been drinking cow’s milk when I choose to drink milk. Up until the last few months, I never really considered dairy free milks, with the exception of almond milk once but I hated the taste. A couple months ago, I started making matcha lattes to start my mornings, and I discovered oat milk! Freaking DELISH. Definitely not the most calorie-friendly option, but let me tell ya. It’s incredibly creamy, and tastes almost like a milkshake. It’s a small luxury that I love to enjoy with a good book every morning. When you’re in quarantine, it’s essential to have things or routines to look forward to!

PS. My fave right now is by Oatly, but the Trader Joe’s one is pretty bomb too. Linking my matcha here too in case y’all are looking for some good matcha!

Long walks in the LA sunshine

Thankfully, I’m blessed with GLORIOUS weather here in LA, and trust me when I say I don’t take it for granted. I spent the last few weeks in Dallas with my family, and returning to 95 degree heat in May wasn’t very pleasant, haha. I’ve been taking 2-3 walks daily, and enjoying every second of it. There’s a slight spring breeze in the air, and with June Gloom the mornings are sometimes cloudy. I pop in a good podcast, and I can walk for over an hour, just enjoying the weather. I wrote a post 2 years ago sharing some of my favorite podcasts, so if you need a good rec you can check that out! Speaking of, it does need quite a bit of updating, so maybe I’ll share a new podcast post soon.

The Happy Class

Last week, I was watching a video all about the ‘perfect salary’ for ultimate happiness, and the video mentioned this course taught at Yale called The Science of Well-Being. I found it to be so interesting that I signed up for the class! It’s been super fascinating to learn from, and I’ve already recommended it to so many friends. If you have a little bit of time to dedicate to it, I’d highly recommend! I spend a little bit of time every day watching the lecture videos, and have been really enjoying it.

Eucalyptus from the farmer’s market

Random, I know! I usually stop by the Melrose Farmer’s Market in our neighborhood when I can, and when I went this past Sunday, the floral vendor had so many bunches of eucalyptus sitting out, so I decided to snag one. It was only $5 for a huge bunch, and when I brought it home I put a few stems tied onto our shower heads, and then a bunch just in a vase on the counter. I love the way it looks, and now every time I take a shower it brings a smile to my face! If you can get your hands on some eucalyptus, I’d highly recommend. 🙂

Cooking videos

I’ve pretty recently discovered the vast universe of cooking videos on Youtube, and I’ve devoured (ha) them in the last few weeks. My current fave channel is Binging with Babish – his videos are like little movies, and he shares so many great tips for beginner/intermediate home chefs.

Your turn! What made you happy this week? I want to know – leave a comment below, let’s chat!
